Vice President Biden May Be Right on Jobs – If Temporary, Part-Time Census Work Counts as “Job Creation”

One week ago, Vice President Biden predicted that “some time in the next couple of months we're going to be creating between 250,000 jobs a month and 500,000 jobs a month." That the Administration is making job predictions at all may seem surprising given their dubious record on predicting job growth and unemployment rates. For example, instead of creating 3.7 million jobs and holding unemployment under 8 percent as they promised, Democrats' $1 trillion 2009 stimulus law was followed by 3 million more lost jobs and unemployment reaching 10 percent.

Amazingly, however, Vice President Biden’s latest prediction is one Administration job forecast that may turn out to be correct – if Census jobs that last “on average, about 19 hours per week for six weeks” count as “job creation.” As the chart below suggests, if Census hiring this spring follows trends in 1990 and 2000, the coming months could see huge leaps in such government “job creation.” However, these jobs will fade away just as quickly as they came. If this is the “good planning” the Vice President describes, he might want to check back around Labor Day to see if his latest job predictions still hold.

If You Are Planned Parenthood, Crime Does Pay

Planned Parenthood (PP) released its annual report this week. It would appear that for Planned Parenthood, crime does pay -- as long as it is crime against humanity.

Last year, while the rest of the nation was seeing a downward trend in relation to abortions, Planned Parenthood was perpetrating over 15,000 more abortions than the year before, for a grand total of 305,310 (while apparently offering no post-abortion counseling to the women who enter into PP's "clinics.")

Added to this mayhem, Planned Parenthood distributed over 1.4 million "emergency contraceptive kits" containing the abortifacient called the "morning after pill."

During this time the organization only did 4,912 adoption referrals.

All this proved very profitable to Planed Parenthood as they posted a net profit of $1.014 BILLION. A clear 34 percent of that figure came from you - the U.S. taxpayer. Government grants to Planned Parenthood allowed the abortion industry to spend on a variety of things including contributing $10 million to elect President Obama and spending close to $1 million to lobby Congress for even more cash, claiming poverty in this time of economic crisis!

This investment by Planned Parenthood has paid handsomely as increases in government funding have led to an increase in the number of abortions the group performs. Only when the abortion industry is completely separated from the government funding spigot will President Obama have any credibility when he says he wants to "reduce the number of abortions." Local governments like Orange County, California and Corpus Christi, Texas have realized this and defunded their local PP's - when will Congress?

Judge Hamilton is the worst of Obama's 15 new liberal appeals court appointees. The 7th Circuit Court of Appeals covers Wisconsin, Indiana and Illinois. Since most cases never reach the Supreme Court, the federal appellate circuits often provide the last word on cases affecting life and liberty.

READ THE FACTS: The Judicial Confirmation Network quickly opposed Hamilton's nomination, stating that "President Obama's first nominee to the federal appeals courts -- specifically the appeals court based in Chicago -- is an ultra-liberal named David Hamilton who is a former fundraiser for ACORN and former leader of the Indiana chapter of the ACLU. He was nominated to the district court bench by President Clinton even though he had no judicial experience and was rated as 'not qualified' by the American Bar Association ." Hamilton ruled in 2005 to ban the practice of opening the chamber's business with prayers mentioning Jesus Christ or using terms such as "Savior." He said that amounted to state endorsement of a religion. (But he ruled prayers to "Allah" were perfectly lawful.)

ANTI-JESUS, BUT PRO-ALLAH? Judge Hamilton wrote: "The injunction orders the Speaker...that the prayers should not use Christ's name or title or any other denominational appeal...If those offering prayers in the Indiana House of Representatives choose to use the Arabic 'Allah'...the court sees little risk that the choice of language would advance a particular religion or disparage others. " In other words, Judge Hamilton ruled the words "Jesus" or "Christ" are illegal words, prohibited for public speech, banned by the First Amendment, which somehow prohibits freedom of religious expression, and makes Christian prayers ILLEGAL in a public forum. (What crazy version of the First Amendment is he reading?)

Thank God, I took action in 2007 and provided legal arguments to the Indiana Attorney General who appealed to the 7th Circuit Court and WE WON a 2-1 decision overruling Hamilton, restoring the right to pray "in Jesus name" in Indiana.

In 2003, Judge Hamilton struck down part of an Indiana law on abortion. Exactly what kind of stimulus did Speaker Nancy Pelosi have in mind? That's a question more Americans should be asking now that details are trickling in about the controversial $825 billion "economic recovery" package. $200 million for lawn care in Washington, D.C., $360 million to potentially be used to put on transsexual beauty pageants and erotic art shows. These are a few examples in the $825 BILLION (and counting!), over 1,588 page stimulus bill. Speaker Nancy Pelosi argues this bill would stimulate the economy, however only 7 percent of the legislation actually goes towards infrastructure - the rest of the bill reads like a taxpayer funded payoff to groups that have supported liberal Democrats' interests.

And what a pay off! ACORN, the long controversial group that purposefully tried to muck up last year's elections to benefit the Democrats is being rewarded by Nancy Pelosi with potentially $4.19 BILLION in taxpayer funds. And more than 10 percent of the proposal-$87 billion-would be directed to groups like Planned Parenthood! The country's recession is crippling families, and the Democrats' solution is spending billions of dollars on contraception?

On the latest "This Week" program on ABC, George Stephanopoulos pressed Speaker Pelosi for an explanation. She implied that making sure there are less children is a great way to stimulate the economy! Meanwhile she helped stop an amendment to the bill that would have protected parental rights!

Alright, I'm sure I'm late in commenting on this, but has anyone seen any President elect with a sign for the podium that says "Office of the President Elect"? Isn't that just a bit pompous and pretentious? Or have I never noticed it before?

And what's with this bit about wanting to move into the White House guest house, Blair House, on January 2nd instead of the normal January 15th date?

Not to mention all these press conferences. The media shows Barack's comments BEFORE they show the current President speaking.

The media has anointed The One and even the Blago crud isn't going to tarnish the halo they've put on his head.

I wonder how anyone manages to keep a normal sized ego with everyone sucking up to them. Look at what happens to normal people when they get to Hollywood or become a sports star. So many of them start to believe the hype.

It's going to be an interesting four years.

MEMPHIS, TN – President-Elect Barack Obama is scheduled to appear in a Memphis court on charges of defacing public property.

According to court documents, a public works employee filed the charge after he says he found 512 campaigns signs illegally placed on right-of-way land in the city. The document says the signs were found on Germantown Road, Walnut Grove Road, Sam Cooper and Mendenhall Road.

City of Memphis spokesperson Toni Holman-Turner says the employee was just doing his job. She says citations have been issued to numerous politicians in the past, including Mayoral, Sheriff and Attorney General Candidates. Memphis City Council passed an ordinance three years ago that made it illegal to place any signs near the right of way.

The ordinance was originally put in place for homeowners, to prevent them from placing signs (like for sale, for rent and yard sale signs, etc.) near the right of way. The City says campaign signs aren't exempt.

According to Holman-Turner, three letters were hand delivered to Obama’s local campaign office and there was no response. She says taking Obama to court was the next step.

Attorney Jay Bailey will be representing the President-Elect. While the City of Memphis says its employee was just doing his job, Bailey feels the city worker just had an axe to grind. "This guy just had a problem with Barack Obama and decided to use his badge."

Bailey says he plans to file a motion to dismiss this on the grounds of selective prosecution.

President-Elect Obama missed his initial court appearance, and the case has been reset to December 8, 2008, in Environmental Court. Obama and his campaign could be fined up to $50 per sign. 512 signs equals $26,500, plus court costs.

I've been listening over these past few weeks to liberals, conservatives, independents, talk hosts, commentators, and seemingly everyone who can find an audience dissect the election. Everyone has their theory or locked-in-stone belief as to why Barack Obama won.

John McCain was too liberal. John McCain was too conservative.

The economy. The economy didn't matter, McCain would have lost anyway.

The media.

George Bush left a bad taste in everyone's mouth.

No way a Republican could have won, no matter who he was.

John McCain had a better chance than anyone.

If the Republicans had chosen a staunch conservative they might have won.

Sarah Palin was the kiss of death.

McCain wouldn't have gotten anywhere near as close as he did if it weren't for Sarah Palin.

I could go on and on.

God was behind Barack Obama.
God was fed up with us for not following him and he's punishing us with Barack Obama so we'll get back on the right path.

I understand the kids didn't come out in droves. I've read that moderates pulled for Obama rather than McCain. I've heard the Republicans didn't come out to vote.

Everyone has an opinion.

None of it really, really matters unless we're going to use the knowledge that we lost to build toward a better future.

I'm excited about all the things I see going on right now and frustrated by others.

The excitement comes from all the groups that are forming to work toward the better future I mentioned. People are tossing aside titles and finding common ground. We have Democrats who are disgusted with their party joining hands with Independents and Republicans. We have Republicans who've just claimed the name without any involvement getting involved. There is a burst of energy that I hope sustains us through a victory. There is an enthusiasm that I hope carries us through the next tough years we'll be enduring.

That's my frustration. I hear what Obama is promising and I am frustrated. Things that are looming include the Fairness Doctrine (shutting down free speech), the Freedom of Choice Act which will eliminate the choice of life for many, the court appointees that could drastically affect every decision of law for decades and so many other actions that tear away at the foundation of our country and the Constitution.

While we have so many who are organizing and banding together at this time, we're going to need those sleepy heads who've skated by, just living day-to-day, to wake up. We are going to need to find a way to educate people, to arm them with real knowledge. Yes, the Internet is on fire with a conservative fervor like I've never seen before. But if America is sitting in front of the boob-tube watching Ugly Betty and their favorite soap, all of our efforts on the Internet are not going to be quite enough.

We have to figure out a way to get on main stream media. We have to make inroads into the news media. How? One way is to raise our children to be reporters, to start newspapers, magazines, to be conservative actors and similar. The problem is trying to break into those liberal bastions! You almost have to be an undercover conservative until you reach a certain point. You have to live in the closet.

I don't know if that's a reasonable suggestion. Being the rich conservatives that we are (cough, cough), maybe we just need to raise the dough and buy up all the media outlets. Hmmm... maybe we need to start a fund to buy up newspapers and television stations! Ha. I think I've hit on something. Let's start a fund and get everyone contributing with the idea that we one by one buy up media outlets across the country.

Whatcha think? Worth a shot? I'm going to propose it to the Read My Lipstick Network and see if we can't collaborate with other groups to start that movement. Gee, keep typing long enough and maybe a worthwhile thought occurs. We'll see.

Our world is getting ready to change. Drastically.

I couldn't convince hardly anyone in my little world that the courts were going to be the fastest loss and change. I just listened in to a call on blog radio of PUMA, Just Say No Deal, No Quarter USA and some others I know I'm forgetting. They had Lynn de Rothschild (sp?), Rudy Giuliani and others talking to undecided voters and a lot of other interested types. It was a great call and it really is fabulous to hear people from across every spectrum of politics get together for principles. If you go out looking around the Internet you will find a lot of unhappy Hillary supporters who know and agree with me that the Democrats and media are doing the same thing to Sarah Palin that they did to her.

The group doesn't say who they're supporting for President, but they're pro-life so you have to believe they can't vote for Obama since he's so openly anti-life. I refuse to say pro-choice. It's not a choice for the baby in question, it's a choice for the selfish owner of the body who did what was necessary to bring a life into this world without taking proper precautions. I'm not talking about rape, incest, etc. when I talk about stupid women who do whatever the heck they want then kill babies as a means of birth control. It's too darned easy these days to take a pill and use a condom (although lord knows that's not fool-proof).

Much ado about nothing. As far as I'm concerned if Sarah Palin erred it was in not going far enough. If my brother-in-law tasered my nephew he wouldn't be able to work. My sisters and I would have him in a circle of tasers and we'd show him what it's like. He'd still be running.

What kind of judgement does State Trooper Mike Wooten have? What kind of judgement does his boss, Commissioner of Public Safety Walter Monegan, have for not firing him or at least suspending him?

Yes, she should have fired the guy who wouldn't fire him. Bad judgement times ten on his part. Sarah would have been remiss if she had not wanted him to fire her ex-brother-in-law. Todd Palin wouldn't be a caring man if he hadn't tried to make it happen.

Sarah Palin's only problem is she's just not used to being sneaky and lying like those who are after her.

Trooper gate is clown gate. The Democrat hack clowns who are running this so-called investigation expect us to believe? to care? to swallow their gleeful openly stated partisan findings?

Sounds like a whole lot of jealousy of Todd Palin, Sarah Palin and those who stand up for what is right. These guys would fire their best friend if it would help their climb to power and they expect us to believe them when they point a finger at a Governor who clearly, even in their own write up, had the right to fire the guy (not the trooper) WITHOUT cause? Sounds like she had plenty of cause to me and it has nothing to do with what the idiot trooper did to his own son, or the threats he made to his in-laws life.

It's not going to stick to Sarah guys. Some October surprise.

The surprise is on you. The only people who are going to give this any credibility are the extreme left who love finding fault with good people because it makes them feel more virtuous. Emphasis on "feel".

Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses... your homeless, your criminals... and we'll turn them into great Barack Obama voters!

ACORN is not alone, they have outreach projects like Project Vote. They're not alone in their subversion of our voting process, other Democratic and similarly biased groups are hitting the jails, the homeless shelters and under the bridges to find voters. If they can't find enough people to take over a precinct or district, they make them up.

I think the Republicans, the Green Party, the Libertarian Party and other non-Democratic groups need to band together to call for a massive review of all registered names. I'll contribute to the cause. We need to hire independent groups to take the lists and simply match them up against addresses. It shouldn't be that big a deal to run a comparison program in this age of computers.

Heck, take part of the money the government gave to ACORN and use it to clean up the voter rolls.

There needs to be a massive outcry of indignation from the public! We need to write to all of our elected officials, to our local County Commissions, City Councils, voter registration boards, election officials and the media saying we want it cleaned up and a complete review.

Wow, this is turning out to be a nasty situation in Ohio. Now I'm hearing that the state isn't going to allow independent observers at the polls or something to that affect (effect? always get mixed up on those two ;-).

I'm going to assume you've all heard about the controversy with the absentee ballots, how they're allowing people to register and vote at the same time. Talk about an opportunity for cheating! There should be a waiting period so they can check out the identification and validity of residency and other issues.

I have a feeling Ohio is going to be Florida revisited.

I've heard they're taking the homeless and dragging them down to register and vote.

I'm going to take a look to see what's going on with the state excluding poll watchers. I don't even think they can legally do that.

Hewitt: Governor, let's close with some foreign affairs. It is reported that you had an Israeli flag in your governor's office. You wore an Israeli flag pin occasionally. One, is that true? And two, why your support for Israel?

Palin: Well, it is true, and I ran into Shimon Peres recently at a meeting, and he even pointed that out. He said I saw a picture of you on the internet, and you had an Israeli flag in your state government office, and I said I sure do. You know, my heart is with you. And all of those trials and tribulations throughout history that Israel has gone through, not only does that allow me to want to support that country, but Israel is our strongest and most important ally in the Middle East. And they are a democratic country who I believe deserves our support, and I know that John McCain believes as I do that Israel is our friend, and we need to be there to support them. Hewitt: Last question, Governor. Have you and Todd heard from your son? And how is it on your nerves having your son deployed?

They were just leaving Kuwait heading into Iraq, and I am just so extremely proud of Track, my son, and all of the men and women, of course, serving in the military. John McCain: Inactaction is Not An Option

My Friends,

We are in the greatest financial crisis of our lifetimes. Congressional inaction has put every American and the entire economy at the gravest risk. Yesterday the country and the world looked to Washington for leadership, and Congress once again came up empty-handed.

I am disappointed at the lack of resolve and bipartisan good will among members of both parties to fix this problem. Bipartisanship is a tough thing; never more so when you're trying to take necessary but publicly unpopular action. But inaction is not an option.

If we do nothing, many businesses may fail.

Sonic Corporation, a drive-in restaurant chain based in Oklahoma, learned on Thursday that one of its lenders, GE Capital, had stopped extending new loans to the chain's franchisees. That will block plans to rebuild restaurants, add equipment and open new locations.

When financing dries up, students can't get loans. In Wisconsin, more than 100 Milwaukee Area Technical College students couldn't access private loans to fund their education. Fortunately the school was able to come up with emergency loans, but this temporary arrangement cannot continue. Markets need to work so that people can get financial help and students can be educated. Again, inaction is not an option.

In light of the House's failure to act, this morning, I spoke to the President about two things that the administration has not done, but should do following the inaction of Congress.

First, the Treasury has already used its Exchange Stabilization Fund to back money market accounts. I encourage it to use it this fund as creatively as possible to provide backstop for accounts across our financial system to maintain confidence on the part of savers and investors.

And second, the recent housing bill gave the government nearly $1 trillion in authority to purchase mortgages. Housing and mortgages are at the root of this crisis. The Administration can take these actions with the stroke of the pen to help alleviate the crisis gripping our economy. I urge them to do so.

The FDIC should quickly be granted the authority to increase the deposit insurance cap from $100,000 to $250,000 so that families do not have to worry about their money. We cannot allow a crisis in our financial system to become a crisis in confidence.

I call on everyone in Washington to come together in a bipartisan way to address this crisis. I know that many of the solutions to this problem may be unpopular, but the dire consequences of inaction will be far more damaging to the economic security of American families and the fault will be all ours. Joe Biden has been on the Washington political scene for what, 35 years or so? Sarah Palin has been on the Washington political scene for a bit over a month?

Joe Biden makes a gaff and it's cute, funny, and, you know, "just Joe".

Sarah Palin makes a gaff and she's not ready for prime time.

Joe Biden has an interview with Katie Couric and she's touching his knee, cutting up with him, obviously comfortable with him (and he still makes a gaffe ;-)

Sarah Palin has an interview with Katie Couric and the setting is stilted, Katie manages to control her facial expressions but not the gotcha mentality and she gets her moment.

I was listening to Fox & Friends for a minute or two this morning and they were talking about the women who absolutely hate Sarah Palin. One of them commented that it seemed to be big city not mid-America who had a problem with her.

I've heard that before and have kind of picked up on it myself.

Here's my theory on that one:

Sarah Palin is fulfilled and happy. She has a career and is accomplishing something meaningful with her life. She has five beautiful children and a real-dude husband who's cute and supportive (which is like extra icing on the side, eat it with a spoon!).

These New York types and Hollywood-the-world-revolves-around-me types see how shallow their lives really are. She shows how meaningless much of what they do actually is, how little they bring to the table. She makes them feel inadequate.

For the rest of us, those who don't have the need for public adoration and don't need to have our egos propped up by others, Sarah is a true, true breath of fresh air, someone we can admire. We're pleased she has accomplished all she has and don't feel the need to tear her down to make ourselves feel better about who we are.

We can have our inadequacies but we're able to accept ourselves and we're strong in ways that the women who have to tear others down to feel good will never be.

Strong women, truly strong women, love Sarah Palin. Those who need outside props to fill their inner space can't handle anyone of competence.

Think about it! Just by being who she is Sarah Palin makes them feel small. The cling to their groups (not their guns and religion ;-) to give themselves an identity.

I can understand not liking some of the things Sarah Palin believes in and not wanting to vote for her. But hate? But this obsession some have with her? I heard Tina Fey talking the other night about playing Sarah Palin on Saturday Night Live. She was having real problems with it, said she hoped she never had to play her again after November 4th. It wasn't so much what she said as how she said it that showed her absolute need to be accepted by her peers.

Ah well, I could go on in this vein until long after all the cows in the world were home in their barns and still not touch on all the underlying personal instability that makes a person have to hate someone they don't know. Irritation that the Party they hate and vilify might be the first to accomplish what should be there's by right (first woman President) plays into things for some. The Democrats blew it when they didn't choose Hillary Clinton and they can't stand it that the Republicans might beat them to yet another first. They are fanning the winds of resentment and hate just as much as they can.

It's up to us to fight the good and decent fight for Sarah Palin, John McCain and true Republican values (not the ones some of our so-called leaders have ignored for these past years).

Don't let the media get you down and don't make the mistake of letting your moods swing with the various leanings of the media or the polls. Stay strong, keep your spirits up no matter what the media tries to cram down your throat and let's win in November!!!

There's a comment on another one of my posts, which I'm not going to bother to approve*, saying they had a bailout deal before John McCain showed up and the deal fell through because the Republicans were just supporting their candidate, it was just politics, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Give it up.

Even conservative Democrats are saying there wasn't a deal. The rest of the Dem crew are just twisting and avoiding and will never say they were wrong.

The Democrats had the votes to go ahead if they wanted, John McCain or no John McCain. They didn't have the guts to cram their so-called deal down the throats of the American public without the support of Republicans. No guts. They didn't want to be the ones to be blamed if their version fell thought. House Republicans had NOT signed onto it, and many conservative Democrats were relieved when John McCain came in to save the day.

At least John McCain cared enough to be there. He took a huge risk when he put his campaign aside and I appreciate the fact that he was willing to attempt to help, regardless of how much of an impact it may or may not have had. I love how he's handling this, especially his comments this morning about whether to take credit or not! He simply did what he felt was right and Obamababy felt like a phone call or two was sufficient. Some leadership.

It's a proven fact that there was no deal. Nada. The Democrats made a huge mistake in their rush to come out and say there was a deal and they blew it. The only people who are believing their twisting of reality are Obama zombies who'd believe anything that came out of the mouth of their chosen one or his chosen representatives.

America this week faces an historic crisis in our financial system. We must pass legislation to address this crisis. If we do not, credit will dry up, with devastating consequences for our economy. People will no longer be able to buy homes and their life savings will be at stake. Businesses will not have enough money to pay their employees. If we do not act, ever corner of our country will be impacted. We cannot allow this to happen.

Last Friday, I laid out my proposal and I have since discussed my priorities and concerns with the bill the Administration has put forward. Senator Obama has expressed his priorities and concerns. This morning, I met with a group of economic advisers to talk about the proposal on the table and the steps that we should take going forward. I have also spoken with members of Congress to hear their perspective.

It has become clear that no consensus has developed to support the Administration's proposal. I do not believe that the plan on the table will pass as it currently stands, and we are running out of time.

Tomorrow morning, I will suspend my campaign and return to Washington after speaking at the Clinton Global Initiative. I have spoken to Senator Obama and informed him of my decision and have asked him to join me.

I am calling on the President to convene a meeting with the leadership from both houses of Congress, including Senator Obama and myself. It is time for both parties to come together to solve this problem.

We must meet as Americans, not as Democrats or Republicans, and we must meet until this crisis is resolved. I am directing my campaign to work with the Obama campaign and the commission on presidential debates to delay Friday night's debate until we have taken action to address this crisis.

I am confident that before the markets open on Monday we can achieve consensus on legislation that will stabilize our financial markets, protect taxpayers and homeowners, and earn the confidence of the American people. All we must do to achieve this is temporarily set politics aside, and I am committed to doing so.

Following September 11th, our national leaders came together at a time of crisis. We must show that kind of patriotism now. A brilliant mind (drip sarcasm) left a comment on one of my previous blogs (which I didn't post) saying Thank God Sarah Palin was there to save the banks, referred to her degree and the fact that she could see Russia from her "year". Yeah, they wrote from her year, whatever that means . Whacky weed, alchihole or public education, take your pick.

I'll take Sarah Palin's experience over Barack Obama's any day. Geez, talk about a light-weight when compared to Sarah!

Sarah is going to be VICE President and we have a sharp, experienced, intelligent, no-nonsense guy at the top of the ticket.

I love it that everyone on the Left is still comparing Barack Obama to Sarah Palin and getting all uptight about the support she's receiving.

Governor Palin, the Republican nominee for vice president, was scheduled to speak today at a rally in Dag Hammarskjold Plaza to protest the appearance here of President Ahmadinejad of Iran. Her appearance was canceled by rally organizers who sought a nonpolitical event. Following are the remarks Mrs. Palin would have given:

I am honored to be with you and with leaders from across this great country -- leaders from different faiths and political parties united in a single voice of outrage.
Tomorrow, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad will come to New York -- to the heart of what he calls the Great Satan -- and speak freely in this, a country whose demise he has called for.

Ahmadinejad may choose his words carefully, but underneath all of the rhetoric is an agenda that threatens all who seek a safer and freer world. We gather here today to highlight the Iranian dictator's intentions and to call for action to thwart him.

He must be stopped.

The world must awake to the threat this man poses to all of us. Ahmadinejad denies that the Holocaust ever took place. He dreams of being an agent in a "Final Solution" -- the elimination of the Jewish people. He has called Israel a "stinking corpse" that is "on its way to annihilation." Such talk cannot be dismissed as the ravings of a madman -- not when Iran just this summer tested long-range Shahab-3 missiles capable of striking Tel Aviv, not when the Iranian nuclear program is nearing completion, and not when Iran sponsors terrorists that threaten and kill innocent people around the world.

The Iranian government wants nuclear weapons. The International Atomic Energy Agency reports that Iran is running at least 3,800 centrifuges and that its uranium enrichment capacity is rapidly improving. According to news reports, U.S. intelligence agencies believe the Iranians may have enough nuclear material to produce a bomb within a year.

The world has condemned these activities. The United Nations Security Council has demanded that Iran suspend its illegal nuclear enrichment activities. It has levied three rounds of sanctions. How has Ahmadinejad responded? With the declaration that the "Iranian nation would not retreat one iota" from its nuclear program.

So, what should we do about this growing threat? First, we must succeed in Iraq. If we fail there, it will jeopardize the democracy the Iraqis have worked so hard to build, and empower the extremists in neighboring Iran. Iran has armed and trained terrorists who have killed our soldiers in Iraq, and it is Iran that would benefit from an American defeat in Iraq.

If we retreat without leaving a stable Iraq, Iran's nuclear ambitions will be bolstered. If Iran acquires nuclear weapons -- they could share them tomorrow with the terrorists they finance, arm, and train today. Iranian nuclear weapons would set off a dangerous regional nuclear arms race that would make all of us less safe.

But Iran is not only a regional threat; it threatens the entire world. It is the no. 1 state sponsor of terrorism. It sponsors the world's most vicious terrorist groups, Hamas and Hezbollah. Together, Iran and its terrorists are responsible for the deaths of Americans in Lebanon in the 1980s, in Saudi Arabia in the 1990s, and in Iraq today. They have murdered Iraqis, Lebanese, Palestinians, and other Muslims who have resisted Iran's desire to dominate the region. They have persecuted countless people simply because they are Jewish.

Iran is responsible for attacks not only on Israelis, but on Jews living as far away as Argentina. Anti-Semitism and Holocaust denial are part of Iran's official ideology and murder is part of its official policy. Not even Iranian citizens are safe from their government's threat to those who want to live, work, and worship in peace. Politically-motivated abductions, torture, death by stoning, flogging, and amputations are just some of its state-sanctioned punishments.

It is said that the measure of a country is the treatment of its most vulnerable citizens. By that standard, the Iranian government is both oppressive and barbaric. Under Ahmadinejad's rule, Iranian women are some of the most vulnerable citizens.

If an Iranian woman shows too much hair in public, she risks being beaten or killed.

If she walks down a public street in clothing that violates the state dress code, she could be arrested.

But in the face of this harsh regime, the Iranian women have shown courage. Despite threats to their lives and their families, Iranian women have sought better treatment through the "One Million Signatures Campaign Demanding Changes to Discriminatory Laws." The authorities have reacted with predictable barbarism. Last year, women's rights activist Delaram Ali was sentenced to 20 lashes and 10 months in prison for committing the crime of "propaganda against the system." After international protests, the judiciary reduced her sentence to "only" 10 lashes and 36 months in prison and then temporarily suspended her sentence. She still faces the threat of imprisonment.

Earlier this year, Senator Clinton said that "Iran is seeking nuclear weapons, and the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps is in the forefront of that" effort. Senator Clinton argued that part of our response must include stronger sanctions, including the designation of the IRGC as a terrorist organization. John McCain and I could not agree more.

Senator Clinton understands the nature of this threat and what we must do to confront it. This is an issue that should unite all Americans. Iran should not be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons. Period. And in a single voice, we must be loud enough for the whole world to hear: Stop Iran!
Only by working together, across national, religious, and political differences, can we alter this regime's dangerous behavior. Iran has many vulnerabilities, including a regime weakened by sanctions and a population eager to embrace opportunities with the West. We must increase economic pressure to change Iran's behavior.

Tomorrow, Ahmadinejad will come to New York. On our soil, he will exercise the right of freedom of speech -- a right he denies his own people. He will share his hateful agenda with the world. Our task is to focus the world on what can be done to stop him.

We must rally the world to press for truly tough sanctions at the U.N. or with our allies if Iran's allies continue to block action in the U.N. We must start with restrictions on Iran's refined petroleum imports.

We must reduce our dependency on foreign oil to weaken Iran's economic influence.
We must target the regime's assets abroad; bank accounts, investments, and trading partners.
President Ahmadinejad should be held accountable for inciting genocide, a crime under international law.

We must sanction Iran's Central Bank and the Revolutionary Guard Corps -- which no one should doubt is a terrorist organization.

Together, we can stop Iran's nuclear program.

Senator McCain has made a solemn commitment that I strongly endorse: Never again will we risk another Holocaust. And this is not a wish, a request, or a plea to Israel's enemies. This is a promise that the United States and Israel will honor, against any enemy who cares to test us. It is John McCain's promise and it is my promise.

No doubt about it, the United States finance system is the pits at the moment. I don't see anything positive about where we are and I don't see us digging our way out for years to come.

I listened to Secretary Henry Paulson on three programs this morning (yes, I skipped church, bad girl that I am today). I heard him speak on Fox News, Meet the Press and ABC. Three different questioners but he was consistent in his answers.

One moment I'd feel better when I heard his comments, then I'd hear the next and feel like we were flying by the seat of our pants. We are in a pickle and it seems based on all the various conversations this morning that no one has a good grasp of the best thing to do. They are hoping and making best guess choices. Scary.

I listened to Christopher Dodd (how can anyone give him ANY credibility given the amounts he's taken from Fannie May while supposedly regulating the failed agency???) and heard politics as usual. The Democrats are going to try and hold our future as hostage so they can get some pet projects through. Half the country is going to rally to their cause and enough Republicans will cave to give them what they want.

I hope I'm wrong. I hope it's the Republicans who hold strong and just get this thing through without any extra garbage attached. Work on the rest of it afterwards when we have cooler minds and can really look at what we're doing!

We are heading toward Socialism sure as I'm breathing if the Democrats take over in January. It's enough that they have the power at the moment but can you imagine what will happen if we have a Democratic Senate and White House?

With politic and partisanship being what it is at the moment I'm not sure they're going to be able to come up with a plan that won't have us in a bigger mess in the future.

Does anyone think that Welfare was the right thing to give to politicians to handle many years back? Think about every program that started with good intentions. Once big government got hold of it they twisted it into something else to give themselves more power.

We need John McCain and Sarah Palin more than ever now. Whoever takes the helm over the next few years is going to struggle with huge problems and will be lambasted in the press no matter which way they go, but we need people who will not take us further down the road to socialism.

I hope people will put aside partisanship and their simplistic view of the Presidency and look at the long-term and the repercussions from their choice on November 4th (or tomorrow since in many states [all of them???] early voting starts September 22nd).

It seems to me that people should be more scared of Obama than ever given all that is going on with our financial institutions, Wall Street, the housing industry and the overall economy.

We know Barack Obama's ultimate goal seems to be to turn the United States into a socialist country.

The current moves by our government will make it that much easier for Obama to reach his goals if he wins in November.

Once in office he'll decry the huge debt he has inherited and our taxes will go up to pay the government's bills. The result will be more businesses bankruptcies and fewer jobs. To help all those who are out of work or struggling, he'll nationalize health care to ensure we all have access. When talk radio and newspapers start yelling he'll shut them down for the public good. After all, times will be difficult enough and he'll say we don't need those right-wing "traitors" stirring up trouble.

He'll blame it all on George W. Bush and the Republicans.

I'm beginning to wonder on some level if this isn't a long-term plan. When I hear that moves that would have or could have stopped the current crisis were voted against by Barack Obama and other Democrats, when I hear some of the background behind the current crisis, I wonder if a more devious mind than mine could have engineered things to this point.

Will we someday look back at this year as a pivotal point in the loss of our freedoms and the country we love so much?

Each year I get to celebrate Independence Day twice. On June 30 I celebrate
my independence day, and on July 4 I celebrate America's. This year is special, because it marks the 40th anniversary of my independence.

On June 30, 1968, I escaped Communist Cuba, and a few months later, I was in the United States to stay. That I happened to arrive in Richmond on Thanksgiving Day is just part of the story, but I digress.

I've thought a lot about the anniversary this year. The election-year rhetoric has made me think a lot about Cuba and what transpired there.

In the late 1950s, most Cubans thought Cuba needed a change, and they were right. So when a young leader came along, every Cuban was at least receptive.

When the young leader spoke eloquently and passionately and denounced the old system, the press fell in love with him. They never questioned who his friends were or what he really believed in.

When he said he would help the farmers and the poor and bring free medical care and education to all, everyone followed. When he said he would bring justice and equality to all, everyone said, 'Praise the Lord.'

And when the young leader said, 'I will be for change and I'll bring you change,' everyone yelled, 'Viva Fidel!'

But nobody asked about the change, so by the time the executioner's guns went silent, the people's guns had been taken away.
By the time everyone was equal, they were equally poor, hungry, and
oppressed.
By the time everyone received their free education, it was worth nothing.
By the time the press noticed, it was too late, because they were now working for him.
By the time the change was finally implemented, Cuba had been knocked down a couple of notches to Third-World status.
By the time the change was over, more than a million people had taken to boats, rafts, and inner tubes. You can call those who made it ashore anywhere else in the world the most fortunate Cubans.

And now I'm back to the beginning of my story.

Luckily, we would never fall in America for a young leader who promised change without asking, what change? How will you carry it out? What will it cost America?

And it means trying to refute a new Spanish-language television ad from the McCain-Palin campaign that blames Barack Obama and other Senate Democrats for undermining immigration reform in 2007 with procedural delays and "poison pill" amendments intended to make the legislation unpalatable to Republicans.

Translated, the ad says: "Obama and his congressional allies say they are on the side of immigrants. But are they? The press reports that their efforts were 'poison pills' that made immigration reform fail. The result: No guest worker program. No path to citizenship. No secure borders. No reform. Is that being on our side? Obama and his congressional allies: Ready to block immigration reform, but not ready to lead."

That is exactly what happened. It was smart but cynical politics. Led by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Democrats were able to please the unions and deny a Republican president a huge legislative victory, all the while making it look as if the opposing party was to blame for the debacle.

Luckily, some members of the media kept their eye on the ball and put the blame where it belonged: on Reid and the Democrats. The Washington Post's David Broder, in a column published in June 2007, blasted Reid for going "out of his way to rewrite (the immigration bill) to meet the demands of organized labor."

Now, in response to the McCain-Palin ad, Democrats are practicing revisionist history. Sen. Robert Menendez of New Jersey said in a statement released by the Obama campaign: "To say that Barack Obama and Senate Democrats blocked the bill that Republicans filibustered is hypocritical and not true. John McCain has lost his credibility when it comes to the immigration issue. . . . (He) cannot attack Democrats on immigration in Spanish while pandering to the extreme right Tancredo wing of the Republican Party in English."

I understand that Menendez is trying to earn Obama's good graces after being a vocal supporter of Hillary Clinton in the primaries. But did he really compare McCain to Tom Tancredo, the nativist congressman who also sought the GOP nomination in this year's primaries?

Senator, I know Tom Tancredo. I've written about Tom Tancredo. And John McCain is no Tom Tancredo. One of the few things that these men share is a strong dislike for one another. In one debate, McCain described Tancredo's explanation of what makes someone an American as "beyond my realm of thinking."

Others on the left are also lending a hand to Democratic efforts at damage control. They include groups dedicated to the admirable goal of achieving comprehensive immigration reform. What is not so admirable is the way that these groups have turned on McCain, whom not long ago they praised for fighting the good fight on the immigration issue. Now they claim that McCain has flip-flopped.

Baloney. They're the ones who flip-flopped, and for no grander reason than because we're in an election year.

"We are stunned," declared Frank Sharry, executive director of America's Voice, a Washington-based liberal-leaning organization in a statement.

"A Spanish-language ad approved by Sen. John McCain accuses Sen. Obama and the Democrats of derailing immigration reform? He knows better. The whole political world knows better. Comprehensive immigration reform was blocked not by Democrats but by Republicans. . . . Immigrants and Latinos are intelligent. They know the difference between fact and fiction."

I always appreciate it when non-Latinos are patronizing and tell me what I should or shouldn't know. I know this much: Some folks inside the Beltway are so eager to put a Democrat in the White House that they're putting party before truth.

They include Latino groups such as the National Council of La Raza and the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund who, as Sharry said, should know better.

During a conference call this week with reporters, NCLR Vice President Cecilia Munoz also criticized the ad and called immigration an issue that "tends to determine who the good guys are and the bad guys are for Latinos."

That implies that these advocacy groups can tell the difference. That's the point. Blinded by partisanship, they haven't a clue.

The McCain camp decried the hacking as a "shocking invasion of the governor's privacy and a violation of law."

Associated Press WASHINGTON -- Hackers broke into the Yahoo! e-mail account that Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin used for official business as Alaska's governor, revealing as evidence a few inconsequential personal messages she has received since John McCain selected her as his running mate.

"This is a shocking invasion of the governor's privacy and a violation of law. The matter has been turned over to the appropriate authorities and we hope that anyone in possession of these e-mails will destroy them," the McCain campaign said in a statement.

The Secret Service contacted The Associated Press on Wednesday and asked for copies of the leaked e-mails, which circulated widely on the Internet. The AP did not comply.

Oh NO! Sarah has a tanning bed!!!

What a scandal! How horrible! How can anyone vote for a woman who would have a tanning bed put in at the Governor's Mansion? Horror!

Who are they kidding? They (the media, Barack Obama's crew, the Democrats?) are trying to make a scandal out of Sarah Palin buying a tanning bed with her own money and putting it in the Governor's Mansion? Why? Because it's harmful to her skin?

I don't use one anymore, but getting inside a tanning bed and shutting out the world for fifteen minutes is like taking a mini-vacation from the world. Nice and warm and no noise from the outside world!

Of all the silly things to raise a fuss about! I know they're trying to find something bad on Sarah, but I don't think it really matters what they find unless it turns out she's pro-abortion or something along those lines.

Imagine having all the media and worker-bees running around digging into your life looking for some horrible secret or just something they could twist into a negative story!

They're trying to make the so-called "trooper gate" into an October surprise. I've read some of her emails, I've heard all the discussions about the situation and there's nothing there. Between you and me, even if it had turned out that she fired the guy because he wouldn't fire the guy who threatened to kill her father and tasered his stepson, I wouldn't care. If he's that ignorant and mean spirited then he shouldn't be working for her. The trooper was found guilty of tasering his stepson and making death threats and all he got was a five-day suspension. I would say that the guy who got fired was trying to stick it to Sarah. He openly thwarted her wishes, was insubordinate and she had the right to fire him for having a hang nail if she wanted. He served at her will.

Ah well, they keep trying to make mountains out of the proverbial mole hill and so far they haven't found anything that will stick. She's the Teflon woman! She's superwoman!

He has been blasted by the Republicans more than any other Republican I've ever heard about and yet they continue to try. Shows you how little substance they have to go on when trying to win the election! Now that Obama's star status is losing some of it's glow and people are paying attention, the real issues (along with the oomph provided by OUR Superwoman, Sarah Palin) are taking McCain to the top.

If Governor Palin and I are elected in 49 days, we are not going to waste a moment in changing the way Washington does business. And we're going to start where the need for reform is greatest. In short order, we are going put an end to the reckless conduct, corruption, and unbridled greed that have caused a crisis on Wall Street.

The working people of this state and this nation are the most innovative, the hardest working, the best skilled, most productive, most competitive in the world. This foundation of our economy, the American worker, is strong but it has been put at risk by the greed and mismanagement of Wall Street and Washington. The top of our economy is broken. We have seen self interest, greed, irresponsibility and corruption undermine the hard work of the American people. It is time to set things right, and I promise to get the job done as your president.

Americans put a lot of trust in the bankers and brokerage firms of Wall Street. They depend on the financial service sector to protect their savings, IRA's, 401k's, and pension accounts. But many leaders in finance have proven unworthy of that trust. Government has a clear responsibility to act in defense of the public interests, and that is exactly what I intend to do. We are going to make sure that American's accounts are protected. I pledge that FDIC and SPIC will have all the support they need to fully back the savings of the American people.

Too many people on Wall Street have been recklessly wagering instead of making the sound investments we expected of them. And when their companies collapse, only the CEO's seem to escape the consequences. While employees, shareholders, and other victims are left with nothing but trouble and debt, the people who helped cause the collapse make off with tens of millions in severance packages. I have spoken out against the excess of corporate executives, and I can assure you that if I am president, we're not going to tolerate that anymore. In my administration, we're going to hold people on Wall Street responsible. And we're going to enact and enforce reforms to make sure that these outrages never happen in the first place.

Too many people on Wall Street have forgotten or disregarded the basic rules of sound finance. In an endless quest for easy money, they dreamed up investment schemes that they themselves don't even understand. With their derivatives, credit default swaps, and mortgage backed securities they tried to make their own rules. But they could only avoid the basic rules of economics for so long. Now, as their schemes unravel in bankruptcies and collapse, it's once again the public who is left to bear the costs. And I promise you that on my watch, we are never going to let these kinds of abuses go uncorrected or unpunished.

Too many practices on Wall Street have been kept hidden from public view, to buy time and postpone the inevitable reckoning. Bad investments were made even worse, and risks allowed to multiply, by keeping them off the books. Derivatives, mortgage backed securities, and other complicated instruments often disguised foolish investments and were sold to insurance companies, pension funds, mutual funds, banks and individuals. When the housing markets collapsed and the value of these securities went way down, our banks couldn't pay their debts. We saw Bear Stearns collapse, followed by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. More recently Lehman Brothers filed for bankruptcy, and a troubled Merrill Lynch was sold to Bank of America in order to survive. And now we have other banks and insurance companies at risk.

So much of the loss and damage to our economy could have been avoided if these practices had been exposed to the light of day. People have a right to know when their jobs, pensions, investments, and our whole economy are being put at risked by the recklessness of Wall Street. And under my reforms for the financial sector, that fundamental right will be protected.
Too many firms on Wall Street have been able to count on casual oversight by regulatory agencies in Washington. And there are so many of those regulators that the responsibility for oversight is scattered, unfocussed and ineffective. Among others, we've got the SEC, the CFTC, the FDIC, the SPIC and the OCC. But for all their big and impressive sounding names, the fact is they haven't been doing their job right, or else we wouldn't have these massive problems on Wall Street. At their worse, they've been caught up in Washington turf wars instead of working together to protect investors and the public interests. And we don't need a dozen federal agencies doing the job badly -- we need the best federal agencies to do the job right.

Under my reforms, the American people will be protected by comprehensive regulations that will apply the rules and enforce them to the full. There will be constant access to the books and accounts of our banks and other financial institutions. By law, it will reduce the debt and risk that any bank can take on. And above all, I promise reforms to prevent the kind of wild speculation that can put our markets at risk, and has already inflicted such enormous damage across our economy.

Two years ago, I warned the administration and the Congress that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac needed to be fixed, and it turns out the problem was even bigger. They waited too long and now we have a housing crisis, three bailouts with taxpayers' money, and a financial crisis. As for the Congress, members in both parties must accept a share of the responsibility. Some members seemed to measure the financial health of banks and lenders by the size of their political contributions, instead of the extent of their debt. They listened to the lobbyists, instead of to the accountants. I can promise you the days of dealing and special favors will soon be over, and in a McCain-Palin administration the public interest will always come first.

Honest people on Wall Street -- and there are many -- will have a friend in the White House when I am president. The financial services industry plays a vital and honorable role in our economy, and I will seek reforms to help them to serve their shareholders and employees. But when any Wall Street operator abuses the trust of the public, then they will face the consequences, and they will have a fight on their hands with the president of the United States.
I will fight to reform Wall Street and to protect the savings and pensions of the American people. I will make sure that Washington works for your interests, and not the special interests. I will fight to make it easier for small business owners everywhere to grow and hire. I will fight to make sure you can afford a home loan or a student loan or a small business loan. I will fight to make sure we create more jobs here at home and prosperity for all Americans.

The media keeps going after Sarah Palin and it is nauseating. Did anyone see the hit job CNN tried to do last night on Sarah Palin? Is the only person they could find to trash her a guy who looks like they had to clean up and take his vodka away from to talk nasty about her? The ex-mayor of Wasilla who Sarah Palin beat not just one, but twice? Duh. Do you expect him to say something nice about her? He tried to sound like he was being non-biased but gee, give me a break, my 5 year old could see through that (and did have a comment about the big things under his eyes... try explaining to a 5 year old why someone carries "bags" under their eyes, ha ha).

They tried to make it "balanced" by putting on some of her family. I bet if they'd known what was going to be done they wouldn't have participated. How much of what they said that was good got cut.

I learned last night how things can be twisted, a lesson I hadn't learned yet. I haven't been involved until this election and have had my news spoon-fed by the press in sound bites. No more.

It was amazing how just the right tone of voice, just the phrasing of the comments and questions by the commentator showed their bias and changed the meaning of answers and thoughts. Wow, what a lesson I learned last night!

I'll be sticking with Fox News from now on.

Not sure I like this commercial (although all I've done is read, haven't watched it yet). I don't know that it's possible to convey all the nastiness that is being thrown in her direction by the so-called support women and minority liberals. As a woman I am doubly offended by what is being done to Sarah Palin. I am wondering how Democrats can hear one thing from their Party that espouses equality and support then see them in action and believe a thing that is said. When you compare facts, real hard data, the Republican Party has more minorities and women in positions of power in the White House than any Democrat ever has. I don't understand how people can be so easily led and ignore facts for rhetoric.

I'm off subject but it's related! I'll watch the commercial and see if they're able to convey all the background data that is listed below. If it's not, then the commercial doesn't really hit the mark for me because unless you're like me, and you listen and read a lot of political stuff, it doesn't connect the dots well enough. Yawn... Stayed up late to watch Sarah last night...

I didn't intend to stay up to watch as Sarah Palin landed and then spoke in Alaska last night, but just couldn't help myself. As I walked by to say goodnight to my husband they started talking about the crowds who had been waiting to greet her and I was hooked.

I'm so glad I stayed up to watch, although I did have to listen to reporters on CNN grousing about how no one would have ever figured we'd be watching a Vice Presidential candidate at that time of night... They were all complaining about having to stay up late it seems.

Sarah Palin is on-fire. She rocks and she IS the new superwoman!

Her talk was great last night. She knows just when to say, enough! She brings just the right touch of seriousness and humor to a talk. Obama has to be jealous as she DOES know how to excite and exhort and fire people up!

Obama's hesitating and hemming and hawing just about drives me nuts when I listen to him. I don't know why he's considered such a great speaker. But hey, he's not my guy anyway and I gather from talking to friends on the "other side" that it is not permissible to say anything negative about Obama. You have to think it in your head. I have friends who are Democrats who are SCARED to say they don't like Obama or that they disagree with something he says because they get vilified. Wow. That is seriously BAD.

I like Sarah Palin, but I'm not going to have a problem in the world saying I disagree with this or that when the time comes. I'm sure I won't like some of the things she says or does. I'd never shoot a moose or eat a mooseburger...

Gotta run, have a meeting... just wanted to say that I thought Sarah did a FANTASTIC job last night and I loved the enthusiasm of the crowd!

Today, in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, U.S. Senator John McCain delivered the following statement on the seventh anniversary of 9/11:

"No American living then should ever forget the heroism that occurred in the skies above this field on September 11, 2001. It is believed that the terrorists on United Flight 93 may have intended to crash the airplane into the United States Capitol. Hundreds if not thousands of people would have been at work in that building when that fateful moment occurred, and been destroyed along with a beautiful symbol of our freedom. They and, very possibly I, owe our lives to the passengers who summoned the courage and love necessary to deny our depraved and hateful enemies their terrible triumph.

"I have witnessed great courage and sacrifice for America's sake, but none greater than the sacrifice of those good people who grasped the gravity of the moment, understood the threat, and decided to fight back at the cost of their lives.

"I spoke at the memorial service for one of them, Mark Bingham. I acknowledged that few of us could say we loved our country as well as he and all the heroes of September 11 had. The only means we possess to thank them is to try to be as good an American as they were. We might fall well short of their standard, but there is honor in the effort.

This is a great ad (see below)! The more they go after Sarah, the stronger the McCain-Palin ticket and team becomes. John McCain has got to be loving it right now. I certainly hope the momentum holds until the election! You know those wolves from the Obama campaign are going to make up dirt if they can't find it. This shows that the McCain team is on the ball and they're not letting any dust gather on these issues. I'm still in shock that Obama could have been so stupid as to use that lame comments about lipstick and pigs! If you listen it's very clear he was waiting on the laughter --- or he was in shock that he said it and was trying to figure out the best way to turn it around, and failed.

Release from the McCain-Palin campaign is below, but I just have to comment first! I read the stuff on Fact Check about Sarah Palin's record. I've read quite a bit about her, watched the shows they have about her life and am listening to both sides. I have to say that the more I learn about her, the more impressed I am and the more certain I want her in the White House.

Sarah Palin is up-front, honest to a fault, has a wonderful family, an extremely supportive husband, a foundation of faith that is admirable and is just an overall wonderful person. She is the real deal and rare in Washington. I think she is going to be one who isn't corrupted by the town and the politics.

The more Barack and his minions attack her, the more I find to like about her and the less respect I have for Obama and the Dems.

In politics, words are cheap. What really counts are actions. Democrats and Republicans have talked about fiscal responsibility for years. In reality, both parties have a shameful record of wasting hundreds of billions of tax dollars on pork-barrel projects.

My Senate colleague Barack Obama is now attacking Gov. Sarah Palin over earmarks. Having worked with both John McCain and Mr. Obama on earmarks, and as a recovering earmarker myself, I can tell you that Mrs. Palin's leadership and record of reform stands well above that of Mr. Obama.

Let's compare.

Mrs. Palin used her veto pen to slash more local projects than any other governor in the state's history. She cut nearly 10% of Alaska's budget this year, saving state residents $268 million. This included vetoing a $30,000 van for Campfire USA and $200,000 for a tennis court irrigation system. She succinctly justified these cuts by saying they were "not a state responsibility."

Meanwhile in Washington, Mr. Obama voted for numerous wasteful earmarks last year, including: $12 million for bicycle paths, $450,000 for the International Peace Museum, $500,000 for a baseball stadium and $392,000 for a visitor's center in Louisiana.

Mrs. Palin cut Alaska's federal earmark requests in half last year, one of the strongest moves against earmarks by any governor. It took real leadership to buck Alaska's decades-long earmark addiction.

Mr. Obama delivered over $100 million in earmarks to Illinois last year and has requested nearly a billion dollars in pet projects since 2005. His running mate, Joe Biden, is still indulging in earmarks, securing over $90 million worth this year.

Mrs. Palin also killed the infamous Bridge to Nowhere in her own state. Yes, she once supported the project: But after witnessing the problems created by earmarks for her state and for the nation's budget, she did what others like me have done: She changed her position and saved taxpayers millions. Even the Alaska Democratic Party credits her with killing the bridge.

When the Senate had its chance to stop the Bridge to Nowhere and transfer the money to Katrina rebuilding, Messrs. Obama and Biden voted for the $223 million earmark, siding with the old boys' club in the Senate. And to date, they still have not publicly renounced their support for the infamous earmark.

Mrs. Palin has proven courageous by taking on big spenders in her own party. In March of this year, the Anchorage Daily News reported that, "Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens is aggravated about what he sees as Gov. Sarah Palin's antagonism toward the earmarks he uses to steer federal money to the state."

Mr. Obama had a chance to take on his party when Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid offered a sham ethics bill, which was widely criticized by watchdog groups such as Citizens Against Government Waste for shielding earmarks from pubic scrutiny. But instead of standing with taxpayers, Mr. Obama voted for the bill. Today, he claims he helped write the bill that failed to clean up Washington.

Mr. Obama has shown little restraint on earmarks until this year, when he decided to co-sponsor an earmark moratorium authored by Mr. McCain and myself. Mr. Obama is vulnerable on this issue, and he knows it. That is why he is lashing out at Mrs. Palin and trying to hide his own record.

Mrs. Palin is one of the strongest antiearmark governors in America. If more governors around the country would do what she has done, we would be much closer to fixing our nation's fiscal problems than we are.

Mrs. Palin's record here is solid and inspiring. She will help Mr. McCain shut down the congressional favor factory, and she has a record to prove it. Actions mean something. You can't just make stuff up.

The Democrats continue to attack Sarah Palin, twisting her record. I understand from reading the Wall Street Journal that the Dems dispatched 30 operatives to Anchorage the day after McCain announced her as his running mate.

Shows how unprepared they were. I also heard they already had attack ads prepared featuring Romney. Shows how off-base they were with their data... Of course, can't fault them too much on that, McCain did a masterful job of surprising almost everyone!

Now the Democrats are going after Palin's religion. She's "too Christian" for them.

If I were still a Democrat I'd be running in the other direction. It is not the Party I once thought it was, which is one of the reasons I left it behind. Who needs all the negative in their life? I believe in taking care of myself, in peace, love and all the things that used to be the creed of the Democratic Party. Now it is a Party of power hungry old men and women who will do anything to attain more power, or keep their power.

The Party moved away from us. It changed. It is MEAN.

Why is it necessary to tear someone down to win? Aren't the merits of the people running enough for the American public? Why do we have to distort people, denigrate and ruin them?

What happened to raising up women? Embracing differences? Tolerance?

I understand why so many are leaving both Parties. I understand why so many are leaving politics in the dust, which may be the ultimate goal of both Parties. The fewer making choices, voting and participating, the stronger their hold will be on the fanatics who are left. The more control they will have.

I firmly believe Barack Obama is leading us to Socialism and that he is masterful in the way he is doing it. I don't for one minute believe our founders intended for America to be the country he wants it to be.

Well, I could go on about my concerns in regards to Obama, but even putting that one sentence in this blog will probably subject me to ridiculous attacks from fanatics. I am ashamed of the censorship being practiced by my once great Party and those who embrace it's negativism. I'm sorry the Democratic Party has changed so that it can only tolerate those who walk in lock-step.

SUMMARY

We've been flooded for the past few days with queries about dubious Internet postings and mass e-mail messages making claims about McCain's running mate, Gov. Palin. We find that many are completely false, or misleading.

Palin did not cut funding for special needs education in Alaska by 62 percent. She didn't cut it at all. In fact, she tripled per-pupil funding over just three years.

She did not demand that books be banned from the Wasilla library. Some of the books on a widely circulated list were not even in print at the time. The librarian has said Palin asked a "What if?" question, but the librarian continued in her job through most of Palin's first term.
She was never a member of the Alaskan Independence Party, a group that wants Alaskans to vote on whether they wish to secede from the United States. She's been registered as a Republican since May 1982.

Palin never endorsed or supported Pat Buchanan for president. She once wore a Buchanan button as a "courtesy" when he visited Wasilla, but shortly afterward she was appointed to co-chair of the campaign of Steve Forbes in the state.

Palin has not pushed for teaching creationism in Alaska's schools. She has said that students should be allowed to "debate both sides" of the evolution question, but she also said creationism "doesn't have to be part of the curriculum."

A few of these claims were included in a chain e-mail by a woman named Anne Kilkenny. We'll be looking into other charges in that e-mail for a future story. For more explanation of the bullet points above, please read the Analysis.

ANALYSIS

Since Republican presidential nominee John McCain tapped Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to be his running mate, information about Palin's past has been zipping around the Internet. Several claims are not true, and other rumors are misleading.

NO CUT FOR "SPECIAL NEEDS" KIDS

It's not true, as widely reported in mass e-mails, Web postings and at least one mainstream news source, that Palin slashed the special education budget in Alaska by 62 percent. CNN's Soledad O'Brien made the claim on Sept. 4 in an interview with Nicolle Wallace, a senior adviser to the McCain campaign:

O'Brien, Sept. 4: One are that has gotten certainly people sending to me a lot of e-mails is the question about as governor what she did with the special needs budget, which I'm sure you're aware, she cut significantly, 62 percent I think is the number from when she came into office. As a woman who is now a mother to a special needs child, and I think she actually has a nephew which is autistic as well. How much of a problem is this going to be as she tries to navigate both sides of that issue?

Such a move might have made Palin look heartless or hypocritical in view of her convention-speech pledge to be an advocate for special needs children and their families. But in fact, she increased special needs funding so dramatically that a representative of local school boards described the jump as "historic."According to an April 2008 article in Education Week, Palin signed legislation in March 2008 that would increase public school funding considerably, including special needs funding. It would increase spending on what Alaska calls "intensive needs" students (students with high-cost special requirements) from $26,900 per student in 2008 to $73,840 per student in 2011. That almost triples the per-student spending in three fiscal years. Palin's original proposal, according to the Anchorage Daily News, would have increased funds slightly more, giving intensive needs students a $77,740 allotment by 2011.

Education Week: A second part of the measure raises spending for students with special needs to $73,840 in fiscal 2011, from the current $26,900 per student in fiscal 2008, according to the Alaska Department of Education and Early Development.Unlike many other states, Alaska has relatively flush budget coffers, thanks to a rise in oil and gas revenues. Funding for schools will remain fairly level next year, however. Overall per-pupil funding across the state will rise by $100, to $5,480, in fiscal 2009. ...Carl Rose, the executive director of the Association of Alaska School Boards, praised the changes in funding for rural schools and students with special needs as a "historic event," and said the finance overhaul would bring more stability to district budgets.

According to Eddy Jeans at the Alaska Department of Education and Early Development, funding for special needs and intensive needs students has increased every year since Palin entered office, from a total of $203 million in 2006 to a projected $276 million in 2009.

Those who claim that Palin cut special needs funding by 62 percent are looking in the wrong place and misinterpreting what they find there. They point to an apparent drop in the Department of Education and Early Development budget for special schools. But the special schools budget, despite the similar name, isn't the special needs budget.

"I don't even consider the special schools component [part of] our special needs funding," Jeans told FactCheck.org. "The special needs funding is provided through our public school funding formula. The special schools is simply a budget component where we have funding set aside for special projects," such as the Alaska School for the Deaf and t he Alaska Military Youth Academy.

A different budget component, the Foundation Program, governs special needs programs in the public school system.And in any case, the decrease in funding for special schools is illusory. Palin moved the Alaska Military Youth Academy's ChalleNGe program, a residential military school program that teaches job and life skills to students under 20, out of the budget line for "special schools" and into its own line. This resulted in an apparent drop of more than $5 million in the special schools budget with no actual decrease in funding for the programs.

NOT A BOOK BURNER

One false rumor accuses then-Mayor Palin of threatening to fire Wasilla's librarian for refusing to ban books from the town library. Some versions of the rumor come complete with a list of the books that Palin allegedly attempted to ban. The story is false on several fronts: Palin never asked that books be banned; the librarian continued to serve in that position; no books were actually banned; and many of the books on the list that Palin supposedly wanted to censor weren't even in print at the time, proving that the list is a fabrication.

It's true that Palin did raise the issue with Mary Ellen Emmons, Wasilla's librarian, on at least two occasions. Emmons flatly stated her opposition both times. But, as the Mat-Su Valley Frontiersman (Wasilla's local paper) reported at the time, Palin asked general ques tions about what Emmons would say if Palin requested that a book be banned. According to Emmons, Palin "was asking me how I would deal with her saying a book can't be in the library." Emmons reported that Palin pressed the issue, asking whether Emmons' position would change if residents were picketing the library. Wasilla resident Anne Kilkenny, who was at the meeting, corroborates Emmons' story, telling the Chicago Tribune that "Sarah said to Mary Ellen, 'What would your response be if I asked you to remove some books from the collection?'"

Palin characterized the exchange differently, initially volunteering the episode as an example of discussions with city employees about following her administration's agenda. Palin described her questions to Emmons as "rhetorical," notin g that her questions "were asked in the context of professionalism regarding the library policy that is in place in our city."

Actually, true rhetorical questions have implied answers (e.g., "Who do you think you are?"), so Palin probably meant to describe her questions as hypothetical or theoretical. We can't read minds, so it is impossible for us to know whether or not Palin may actually have wanted to ban books from the library or whether she simply wanted to know how her new employees would respond to an instruction from their boss.

It is worth noting that, in an update, the Frontiersman points out that no book was ever banned from the library's shelves. Moreover, although Palin fired Emmons as part of a "loyalty" purge, she rehired Emmons the next day, and Emmons remained at her job for two-and-a-half more years. Actually, Palin initially requested Emmons' resignation in October 1996, four days before the public discussion of censorship. That was a t the same time she requested that all four of Wasilla's department heads resign. Palin described the requests as a loyalty test and allowed all four department heads to retain their positions. But on Jan. 30, 1997, three months after the censorship discussion, Palin informed Emmons and Wasilla's police chief, Irv Stambaugh, that they would be fired.

According to the Chicago Tribune, Palin did not list censorship as a reason for Emmons' firing. Palin rehired Emmons the following day. Emmons continued to serve as librarian until August 1999, when the Chicago Tribune reports that she resigned.So what about that list of books targeted for banning, which accordin g to one widely e-mailed version was taken "from the official minutes of the Wasilla Library Board"?

If it was, the library board should take up fortune telling. The list includes the first four Harry Potter books, none of which had been published at the time of the Palin-Emmons conversations. The first wasn't published until 1998. In fact, the list is a simple cut-and-paste job, snatched (complete with typos and the occasional incorrect title) from the Florida Institute of Technology library Web page, which presents the list as "Books banned at one time or another in the United States."

CLOSET SECESSIONIST?

Palin was never a member of the Alaskan Independence Party -- which calls for a vote on whether Alaska should secede from the union or remain a state -- despite mistaken reports to the contrary. But her husband was a member for years, and she attended at least one party convention, as mayor of the town in which it was held.The party's chair originally told reporters that Palin had been a member, but the official later retracted that statement.

Chairwoman Lynette Clark told the New York Times that false information had been given to her by another member of the party after she first told the Times and others that Palin joined the AIP in 1994. Clark issued an apology on the AIP Web site.

The director of Alaska's Division of Elections, Gail Fenumiai, confirms that Palin registered to vote in the state for the first time in May 1982 as a Republican and hasn't changed her party affiliation since. She also told FactCheck.org that Palin's husband, Todd, was registered with AIP from October 1995 to July 2000, and again from September 2000 until July 2002. (He has since been registered as undeclared.) However, the AIP says Todd Palin "never participated in any party activities aside from attending a convention in Wasilla at one time."

There is still some dispute as to whether Sarah Palin also attended the AIP's 1994 convention, held in Wasilla. Clark and another AIP official told ABC News' Jake Tapper that both Palins were there. Palin was elected mayor of Wasilla two years later. The McCain campaign says Sarah Palin went to the 2000 AIP convention, also held in Wasilla, "as a courtesy since she was mayor." As governor, Palin sent a video message to the 2008 convention, which is available on YouTube, and the AIP says she attended in 2006 when she was campaigning.

DIDN'T ENDORSE PAT BUCHANAN

Claims that Palin endorsed conservative Republican Pat Buchanan for president in the 2000 campaign are false. She worked for conservative Republican Steve Forbes.

The incorrect reports stem from an Associated Press story on July 17, 1999, that said Palin was "among those sporting Buchanan buttons" at a lunch for Buchanan attended by about 85 people, during a swing he took through Fairbanks and Wasilla. Buchanan didn't help matters when he told a reporter for the liberal publication The Nation on Aug. 29: "I'm pretty sure she's a Buchananite." But in fact, she wasn't.

Soon after The AP story appeared, Palin wrote in a letter to the editor of the Anchorage Daily News that she had merely worn a Buchanan button as a courtesy to her visitor and was not endorsing him. The lette r, published July 26, 1999, said:

Palin, July 26, 1999: As mayor of Wasilla, I am proud to welcome all presidential candidates to our city. This is true regardless of their party, or the latest odds of their winning. When presidential candidates visit our community, I am always happy to meet them. I'll even put on their button when handed one as a polite gesture of respect.Though no reporter interviewed me for the Associated Press article on the recent visit by a presidential candidate (Metro, July 17), the article may have left your readers with the perception that I am endorsing this candidate, as opposed to welcoming his visit to Wasilla. As mayor, I will welcome all the candidates in Wasilla.

Palin actually worked for Forbes. Less than a month after being spotted wearing the "courtesy" button for Buchanan, she was named to the state leadership committee of the Forbes effort. The Associated Press reported on Aug. 7, 1999:

The Associated Press, Aug. 7 1999: State Sen. Mike Miller of Fairbanks will head the Alaska campaign chairman for Republican presidential candidate Steve Forbes, campaign officials said. Joining the Fairbanks Republican on the leadership committee will be Wasilla Mayor Sarah Palin, and former state GOP chairman Pete Hallgren, who will serve as co-chairs.

Still, after nine years, the truth has yet to catch up completely.

NO CREATIONISM IN SCHOOLS

On Aug. 29, the Boston Globe reported that Palin was open to teaching creationism in public schools. That's true. She supports teaching creationism alongside evolution, though she has not actively pursued such a policy as governor.

In an Oct. 25, 2006, debate, when asked about teaching alternatives to evolution, Palin replied:

Palin, Oct. 25, 2006: Teach both. You know, don't be afraid of information. Healthy debate is so important and it's so valuable in our schools. I am a proponent of teaching both. And you know, I say this too as the daughter of a science teacher. Growing up with being so privileged and blessed to be given a lot of information on, on both sides of the subject -- creationism and evolution. It's been a healthy foundation for me. But don't be afraid of information and let kids debate both sides.

A couple of days later, Palin amended that statement in an interview with the Anchorage Daily News, saying:

Palin, Oct. 2006: I don't think there should be a prohibition against debate if it comes up in class. It doesn't have to be part of the curriculum.

After her election, Palin let the matter drop. The Associated Press reported Sept 3: "Palin's children attend public schools and Palin has made no push to have creationism taught in them. ... It reflects a hands-off attitude toward mixing government and religion by most Alaskans." The article was headlined, "Palin has not pushed creation science as governor." It was written by Dan Joling, who reports from Anchorage and has covered Alaska for 30 years.

THAT E-MAIL AUTHOR

Switching gears: Almost 100 readers have written to ask us if the many claims made about Palin in an e-mail written by someone named Anne Kilkenny are true. We can tell you that Kilkenny is a real person. (She was quoted by the Chicago Tribune, as we said above.) According to the New York Times, she's a Democrat. According to Kilkenny herself, Palin "has hated me since back in 1996, when I was one of the 100 or so people who rallied to support the City Librarian against Sarah's attempt at censorship."We're still analyzing Kilkenny's claims, and we will be posting something on this soon.

As someone who cast a vote for Hillary Clinton in this year's Illinois primary, I have something to say about McCain's choice of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to be his vice-presidential running mate.

Obama has been too quick, and too defensive in tone, to try and paint Gov. Palin as low on experience -- even while claiming that McCain now has no business questioning the credentials and experience of Obama.

With independent voters, Obama has two large risks in trying to push this point...

Sarah Palin's approval rating is up to 82% in Alaska. How in the world can the media want to trash such a fine lady? If the people who know you best think you're great who are these interlopers to try and throw garbage? Oh, wait, they have an agenda... they don't report the news any more, they make the news. They just have to take something good or great and make it horrible. What happened to good journalism? Why can't good be good anymore? People are still buzzing about Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin's acceptance speech. But while her style has been minutely analyzed, very little commentary has focused on one of the few substantive claims she made about her brief tenure as governor of Alaska: that she "fought to bring about the largest private-sector infrastructure project in North American history . . . a nearly $40 billion natural gas pipeline to help lead America to energy independence." Is Ms. Palin right about the importance of the pipeline and her role in moving it forward?

Ms. Palin is indeed correct about the need to tap the 35 trillion cubic feet of natural gas under Alaska's North Slope, the same region whose oil made the state wealthy but which has begun to run dry. Natural gas demand is growing rapidly in North America, and low-carbon natural gas is better for the environment than coal or petroleum. This means that the outlook for gas prices is relatively bullish, making the economics of an Alaska pipeline more favorable than ever before. Yet for decades the idea has been deadlocked by federal and state politics -- and unless the United States can install a pipeline to transport Alaska's gas soon, companies may commit to foreign sources of liquefied natural gas, thus locking in long-term dependency on imports.

Congress passed legislation to expedite a pipeline in 2004. Ms. Palin's predecessor as governor, Republican Frank H. Murkowski, attempted to negotiate a deal with the three oil companies that control the North Slope gas, Exxon Mobil, BP and Conoco Phillips. His plan would have awarded the companies a long-term tax freeze in return for relatively weak commitments to actually build the pipeline. But even though Vice President Cheney and Sen. Ted Stevens (R-Alaska) lobbied hard for Mr. Murkowski's approach, Alaska's public and legislature balked, viewing the proposal as stacked in favor of the Big Three oil companies. Ms. Palin rode criticism of Mr. Murkowski's deal to victory over him in the 2006 Republican gubernatorial primary and then to the governor's office later that year. She reversed Mr. Murkowski's strategy, asking the legislature to pass a law setting criteria for a deal, then throwing the project open to companies other than the Big Three. The result was a commitment by an experienced pipeline company, TransCanada, to build the project, which may take 10 years, in return for $500 million in state seed money derived from Alaska's recent oil windfall.

The oil companies still control the gas. So, if TransCanada actually gets all the necessary permits, assembles financing and builds the pipeline, the Big Three will have to be persuaded, years from now, to ship their gas through it on reasonable terms. Meanwhile, BP and Conoco Phillips have announced plans to build a pipeline of their own without the state's backing -- a sign that the political and economic wrangling over this immense and risky project is far from over. But it is also a sign that Ms. Palin's outflanking of the oil companies injected some competition and urgency into a process that was previously stalled. Perhaps her Democratic opponent for the governorship in 2006, who campaigned on similar ideas, would have achieved these results. Nevertheless, Ms. Palin actually did.

Tried to find the website mentioned in the media that was set up by the McCain camp to combat the garbage being distributed about Sarah Palin. I searched on the main www.JohnMcCain.com website without any luck. Tried searching Google for Sarah Palin, no luck. Added the word "website" and voila, found the following part way down the page. I don't think I found the right one yet, but it is interesting and pro-Palin.

Michel Luciano of Students for America also weighed in on why he decided to back TFP, saying, "I believe that Governor Sarah Palin's conservative credentials, fight against corruption, and stance on energy security along with her leadership experience as Mayor of Wasilla and Governor of Alaska make her the best qualified candidate for Vice President of the United States."

It's fabulous listening to the talk about Sarah Palin! The more they attack, the more people love her and rally to her cause, and to her side! It is SO obvious they're scared of her! Go get 'em Sarah! Go get 'em McCain!

Reading polls today and yesterday--- McCain is gaining ground (not that the polls seem to be right anymore if they ever were). It was 50-50 on some polls and they don't expect the real numbers until Monday.

Exciting! Heard an update from a couple of people who were at the Convention last week. One had been to 3 or 4 others and said this was absolutely THE best ever when it came to enthusiasm. I think it's because it's not just typical politics, it's not the usual suspects... it's The MAVERICK showing them how it's done and he's got everything all up in the air in a positive way. Yesterday, McCain and Governor Palin visited the battleground states of Michigan and Wisconsin. Thunderous crowds greeted the Republican ticket in Cedarburg, Wisconsin and Sterling Heights, Michigan respectively. I couldn't help but think about how all the pundits wrote John McCain off. They said he was out of it, had lost his maverick spirit, yada yada yada. How wrong they were. It must have been a double sweet victory for him tonight as he addressed a crowd of die-hard Republicans who cheered for him!

He gave a more subdued speech if you're comparing it to Sarah Palin's speech last night. But McCain did what he needed to do tonight and I thought it was very well done. He built enthusiasm and it was clear he was speaking his convictions, the truth, what he really felt. I love his feelings toward service and our country. What a spectacular man. I had no idea who he really was, and wasn't initially overly thrilled that he was our nominee.

The more I learn about him and the more I see him in action, the more I like him. He has a lot of depth and I like that. I like the way he sticks to principles even when it flies in the face of the Republican powers-that-be's wisdom. I like it that he wants to shake it up when he gets into office as President. I hope he succeeds. With his experience I'm sure he knows where all the skeletons are and I bet he knows how to get around most of the status-quo way of doing business.

We'll see. There's a big bureaucracy that is firmly entrenched. He's going to have a difficult time making huge strides I'd think.

U.S. Senator John McCain will deliver the following remarks as prepared for delivery to the Republican National Convention in St. Paul, Minnesota, today at 10:00 p.m. ET (9:00 p.m. CT):
Thank you all very much. Tonight, I have a privilege given few Americans -- the privilege of accepting our party's nomination for President of the United States. And I accept it with gratitude, humility and confidence.

In my life, no success has come without a good fight, and this nomination wasn't any different. That's a tribute to the candidates who opposed me and their supporters. They're leaders of great ability, who love our country, and wished to lead it to better days. Their support is an honor I won't forget.

I'm grateful to the President for leading us in those dark days following the worst attack on American soil in our history, and keeping us safe from another attack many thought was inevitable; and to the First Lady, Laura Bush, a model of grace and kindness in public and in private. And I'm grateful to the 41st President and his bride of 63 years, and for their outstanding example of honorable service to our country.

As always, I'm indebted to my wife, Cindy, and my seven children. The pleasures of family life can seem like a brief holiday from the crowded calendar of our nation's business. But I have treasured them all the more, and can't imagine a life without the happiness you give me. Cindy said a lot of nice things about me tonight. But, in truth, she's more my inspiration than I am hers. Her concern for those less blessed than we are -- victims of land mines, children born in poverty and with birth defects -- shows the measure of her humanity. I know she will make a great First Lady.

When I was growing up, my father was often at sea, and the job of raising my brother, sister and me would fall to my mother alone. Roberta McCain gave us her love of life, her deep interest in the world, her strength, and her belief we are all meant to use our opportunities to make ourselves useful to our country. I wouldn't be here tonight but for the strength of her character.
My heartfelt thanks to all of you, who helped me win this nomination, and stood by me when the odds were long. I won't let you down. To Americans who have yet to decide who to vote for, thank you for your consideration and the opportunity to win your trust. I intend to earn it.

Finally, a word to Senator Obama and his supporters. We'll go at it over the next two months. That's the nature of these contests, and there are big differences between us. But you have my respect and admiration. Despite our differences, much more unites us than divides us. We are fellow Americans, an association that means more to me than any other. We're dedicated to the proposition that all people are created equal and endowed by our Creator with inalienable rights. No country ever had a greater cause than that. And I wouldn't be an American worthy of the name if I didn't honor Senator Obama and his supporters for their achievement.

But let there be no doubt, my friends, we're going to win this election. And after we've won, we're going to reach out our hand to any willing patriot, make this government start working for you again, and get this country back on the road to prosperity and peace.

These are tough times for many of you. You're worried about keeping your job or finding a new one, and are struggling to put food on the table and stay in your home. All you ever asked of government is to stand on your side, not in your way. And that's just what I intend to do: stand on your side and fight for your future.

And I've found just the right partner to help me shake up Washington, Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska. She has executive experience and a real record of accomplishment. She's tackled tough problems like energy independence and corruption. She's balanced a budget, cut taxes, and taken on the special interests. She's reached across the aisle and asked Republicans, Democrats and Independents to serve in her administration. She's the mother of five children. She's helped run a small business, worked with her hands and knows what it's like to worry about mortgage payments and health care and the cost of gasoline and groceries.

She knows where she comes from and she knows who she works for. She stands up for what's right, and she doesn't let anyone tell her to sit down. I'm very proud to have introduced our next Vice President to the country. But I can't wait until I introduce her to Washington. And let me offer an advance warning to the old, big spending, do nothing, me first, country second Washington crowd: change is coming.

I'm not in the habit of breaking promises to my country and neither is Governor Palin. And when we tell you we're going to change Washington, and stop leaving our country's problems for some unluckier generation to fix, you can count on it. We've got a record of doing just that, and the strength, experience, judgment and backbone to keep our word to you.

You know, I've been called a maverick; someone who marches to the beat of his own drum. Sometimes it's meant as a compliment and sometimes it's not. What it really means is I understand who I work for. I don't work for a party. I don't work for a special interest. I don't work for myself. I work for you.

I've fought corruption, and it didn't matter if the culprits were Democrats or Republicans. They violated their public trust, and had to be held accountable. I've fought big spenders in both parties, who waste your money on things you neither need nor want, while you struggle to buy groceries, fill your gas tank and make your mortgage payment. I've fought to get million dollar checks out of our elections. I've fought lobbyists who stole from Indian tribes. I fought crooked deals in the Pentagon. I fought tobacco companies and trial lawyers, drug companies and union bosses.

I fought for the right strategy and more troops in Iraq, when it wasn't a popular thing to do. And when the pundits said my campaign was finished, I said I'd rather lose an election than see my country lose a war.

Thanks to the leadership of a brilliant general, David Petreaus, and the brave men and women he has the honor to command, that strategy succeeded and rescued us from a defeat that would have demoralized our military, risked a wider war and threatened the security of all Americans.
I don't mind a good fight. For reasons known only to God, I've had quite a few tough ones in my life. But I learned an important lesson along the way. In the end, it matters less that you can fight. What you fight for is the real test.

I fight for Americans. I fight for you. I fight for Bill and Sue Nebe from Farmington Hills, Michigan, who lost their real estate investments in the bad housing market. Bill got a temporary job after he was out of work for seven months. Sue works three jobs to help pay the bills.
I fight for Jake and Toni Wimmer of Franklin County, Pennsylvania. Jake works on a loading dock; coaches Little League, and raises money for the mentally and physically disabled. Toni is a schoolteacher, working toward her Master's Degree. They have two sons, the youngest, Luke, has been diagnosed with autism. Their lives should matter to the people they elect to office. They matter to me.

I fight for the family of Matthew Stanley of Wolfboro, New Hampshire, who died serving our country in Iraq. I wear his bracelet and think of him every day. I intend to honor their sacrifice by making sure the country their son loved so well and never returned to, remains safe from its enemies.
I fight to restore the pride and principles of our party. We were elected to change Washington, and we let Washington change us. We lost the trust of the American people when some Republicans gave in to the temptations of corruption. We lost their trust when rather than reform government, both parties made it bigger. We lost their trust when instead of freeing ourselves from a dangerous dependence on foreign oil, both parties and Senator Obama passed another corporate welfare bill for oil companies. We lost their trust, when we valued our power over our principles.

We're going to change that. We're going to recover the people's trust by standing up again for the values Americans admire. The party of Lincoln, Roosevelt and Reagan is going to get back to basics.

We believe everyone has something to contribute and deserves the opportunity to reach their God-given potential from the boy whose descendents arrived on the Mayflower to the Latina daughter of migrant workers. We're all God's children and we're all Americans.

We believe in low taxes; spending discipline, and open markets. We believe in rewarding hard work and risk takers and letting people keep the fruits of their labor.

We believe in a strong defense, work, faith, service, a culture of life, personal responsibility, the rule of law, and judges who dispense justice impartially and don't legislate from the bench. We believe in the values of families, neighborhoods and communities.

We believe in a government that unleashes the creativity and initiative of Americans. Government that doesn't make your choices for you, but works to make sure you have more choices to make for yourself.

I will keep taxes low and cut them where I can. My opponent will raise them. I will open new markets to our goods and services. My opponent will close them. I will cut government spending. He will increase it.

My tax cuts will create jobs. His tax increases will eliminate them. My health care plan will make it easier for more Americans to find and keep good health care insurance. His plan will force small businesses to cut jobs, reduce wages, and force families into a government run health care system where a bureaucrat stands between you and your doctor.

Keeping taxes low helps small businesses grow and create new jobs. Cutting the second highest business tax rate in the world will help American companies compete and keep jobs from moving overseas. Doubling the child tax exemption from $3500 to $7000 will improve the lives of millions of American families. Reducing government spending and getting rid of failed programs will let you keep more of your own money to save, spend and invest as you see fit. Opening new markets and preparing workers to compete in the world economy is essential to our future prosperity.

I know some of you have been left behind in the changing economy and it often seems your government hasn't even noticed. Government assistance for unemployed workers was designed for the economy of the 1950s. That's going to change on my watch. My opponent promises to bring back old jobs by wishing away the global economy. We're going to help workers who've lost a job that won't come back, find a new one that won't go away.

We will prepare them for the jobs of today. We will use our community colleges to help train people for new opportunities in their communities. For workers in industries that have been hard hit, we'll help make up part of the difference in wages between their old job and a temporary, lower paid one while they receive retraining that will help them find secure new employment at a decent wage.

Education is the civil rights issue of this century. Equal access to public education has been gained. But what is the value of access to a failing school? We need to shake up failed school bureaucracies with competition, empower parents with choice, remove barriers to qualified instructors, attract and reward good teachers, and help bad teachers find another line of work.
When a public school fails to meet its obligations to students, parents deserve a choice in the education of their children. And I intend to give it to them. Some may choose a better public school. Some may choose a private one. Many will choose a charter school. But they will have that choice and their children will have that opportunity.

Senator Obama wants our schools to answer to unions and entrenched bureaucracies. I want schools to answer to parents and students. And when I'm President, they will.

My fellow Americans, when I'm President, we're going to embark on the most ambitious national project in decades. We are going to stop sending $700 billion a year to countries that don't like us very much. We will attack the problem on every front. We will produce more energy at home. We will drill new wells offshore, and we'll drill them now. We will build more nuclear power plants. We will develop clean coal technology. We will increase the use of wind, tide, solar and natural gas. We will encourage the development and use of flex fuel, hybrid and electric automobiles.

Senator Obama thinks we can achieve energy independence without more drilling and without more nuclear power. But Americans know better than that. We must use all resources and develop all technologies necessary to rescue our economy from the damage caused by rising oil prices and to restore the health of our planet. It's an ambitious plan, but Americans are ambitious by nature, and we have faced greater challenges. It's time for us to show the world again how Americans lead.

This great national cause will create millions of new jobs, many in industries that will be the engine of our future prosperity; jobs that will be there when your children enter the workforce.
Today, the prospect of a better world remains within our reach. But we must see the threats to peace and liberty in our time clearly and face them, as Americans before us did, with confidence, wisdom and resolve.

We have dealt a serious blow to al Qaeda in recent years. But they are not defeated, and they'll strike us again if they can. Iran remains the chief state sponsor of terrorism and on the path to acquiring nuclear weapons. Russia's leaders, rich with oil wealth and corrupt with power, have rejected democratic ideals and the obligations of a responsible power. They invaded a small, democratic neighbor to gain more control over the world's oil supply, intimidate other neighbors, and further their ambitions of reassembling the Russian empire. And the brave people of Georgia need our solidarity and prayers. As President I will work to establish good relations with Russia so we need not fear a return of the Cold War. But we can't turn a blind eye to aggression and international lawlessness that threatens the peace and stability of the world and the security of the American people.

We face many threats in this dangerous world, but I'm not afraid of them. I'm prepared for them. I know how the military works, what it can do, what it can do better, and what it should not do. I know how the world works. I know the good and the evil in it. I know how to work with leaders who share our dreams of a freer, safer and more prosperous world, and how to stand up to those who don't. I know how to secure the peace.

When I was five years old, a car pulled up in front of our house. A Navy officer rolled down the window, and shouted at my father that the Japanese had bombed Pearl Harbor. I rarely saw my father again for four years. My grandfather came home from that same war exhausted from the burdens he had borne, and died the next day. In Vietnam, where I formed the closest friendships of my life, some of those friends never came home with me. I hate war. It is terrible beyond imagination.

I'm running for President to keep the country I love safe, and prevent other families from risking their loved ones in war as my family has. I will draw on all my experience with the world and its leaders, and all the tools at our disposal -- diplomatic, economic, military and the power of our ideals -- to build the foundations for a stable and enduring peace.

In America, we change things that need to be changed. Each generation makes its contribution to our greatness. The work that is ours to do is plainly before us. We don't need to search for it.
We need to change the way government does almost everything: from the way we protect our security to the way we compete in the world economy; from the way we respond to disasters to the way we fuel our transportation network; from the way we train our workers to the way we educate our children. All these functions of government were designed before the rise of the global economy, the information technology revolution and the end of the Cold War. We have to catch up to history, and we have to change the way we do business in Washington.

The constant partisan rancor that stops us from solving these problems isn't a cause, it's a symptom. It's what happens when people go to Washington to work for themselves and not you.
Again and again, I've worked with members of both parties to fix problems that need to be fixed. That's how I will govern as President. I will reach out my hand to anyone to help me get this country moving again. I have that record and the scars to prove it. Senator Obama does not.
Instead of rejecting good ideas because we didn't think of them first, let's use the best ideas from both sides. Instead of fighting over who gets the credit, let's try sharing it. This amazing country can do anything we put our minds to. I will ask Democrats and Independents to serve with me. And my administration will set a new standard for transparency and accountability.

We're going to finally start getting things done for the people who are counting on us, and I won't care who gets the credit.

I've been an imperfect servant of my country for many years. But I have been her servant first, last and always. And I've never lived a day, in good times or bad, that I didn't thank God for the privilege.

Long ago, something unusual happened to me that taught me the most valuable lesson of my life. I was blessed by misfortune. I mean that sincerely. I was blessed because I served in the company of heroes, and I witnessed a thousand acts of courage, compassion and love.

On an October morning, in the Gulf of Tonkin, I prepared for my 23rd mission over North Vietnam. I hadn't any worry I wouldn't come back safe and sound. I thought I was tougher than anyone. I was pretty independent then, too. I liked to bend a few rules, and pick a few fights for the fun of it. But I did it for my own pleasure; my own pride. I didn't think there was a cause more important than me.

Then I found myself falling toward the middle of a small lake in the city of Hanoi, with two broken arms, a broken leg, and an angry crowd waiting to greet me. I was dumped in a dark cell, and left to die. I didn't feel so tough anymore. When they discovered my father was an admiral, they took me to a hospital. They couldn't set my bones properly, so they just slapped a cast on me. When I didn't get better, and was down to about a hundred pounds, they put me in a cell with two other Americans. I couldn't do anything. I couldn't even feed myself. They did it for me. I was beginning to learn the limits of my selfish independence. Those men saved my life.

I was in solitary confinement when my captors offered to release me. I knew why. If I went home, they would use it as propaganda to demoralize my fellow prisoners. Our Code said we could only go home in the order of our capture, and there were men who had been shot down before me. I thought about it, though. I wasn't in great shape, and I missed everything about America. But I turned it down.

A lot of prisoners had it worse than I did. I'd been mistreated before, but not as badly as others. I always liked to strut a little after I'd been roughed up to show the other guys I was tough enough to take it. But after I turned down their offer, they worked me over harder than they ever had before. For a long time. And they broke me.

When they brought me back to my cell, I was hurt and ashamed, and I didn't know how I could face my fellow prisoners. The good man in the cell next door, my friend, Bob Craner, saved me. Through taps on a wall he told me I had fought as hard as I could. No man can always stand alone. And then he told me to get back up and fight again for our country and for the men I had the honor to serve with. Because every day they fought for me.

I fell in love with my country when I was a prisoner in someone else's. I loved it not just for the many comforts of life here. I loved it for its decency; for its faith in the wisdom, justice and goodness of its people. I loved it because it was not just a place, but an idea, a cause worth fighting for. I was never the same again. I wasn't my own man anymore. I was my country's.
I'm not running for president because I think I'm blessed with such personal greatness that history has anointed me to save our country in its hour of need. My country saved me. My country saved me, and I cannot forget it. And I will fight for her for as long as I draw breath, so help me God.

If you find faults with our country, make it a better one. If you're disappointed with the mistakes of government, join its ranks and work to correct them. Enlist in our Armed Forces. Become a teacher. Enter the ministry. Run for public office. Feed a hungry child. Teach an illiterate adult to read. Comfort the afflicted. Defend the rights of the oppressed. Our country will be the better, and you will be the happier. Because nothing brings greater happiness in life than to serve a cause greater than yourself.

I'm going to fight for my cause every day as your President. In Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, Sen. John McCain has found a fellow maverick to be his running mate -- one who can help bring the right kind of reform to Washington. Ms. Palin, like Mr. McCain, has a strong record of battling the status quo, restoring accountability and effectiveness to government, and working to secure energy independence, root out corruption and curb wasteful spending.

As the chief executive of the nation's largest state, Ms. Palin oversees some of the country's largest energy reserves. She came into office at a critical time in Alaska politics, facing a system plagued by corruption. Her response was to immediately begin cleaning it up. The results of her leadership today speak for themselves: Ms. Palin's approval ratings top 80% -- more than 60% higher than that of the Democratic Congress.

Ms. Palin has a tangible, impressive record of achievement and executive experience. She is head of the Alaska National Guard and the chairman of two multistate agencies that make energy decisions that affect all Americans. While Barack Obama spent almost all of the past two years running for president, Ms. Palin has been running a state.

It's telling that Sen. Obama chose to give a negative, partisan speech at the Democratic National Convention in Denver. He envisions a Democratic monolith in Washington that will solve all of our problems.

But Ms. Palin knows that real change doesn't come from rigid adherence to party lines. She has transformed her state's government from what she called a "good ol' boys network" to an accountable, successful system. Like Mr. McCain, Ms. Palin realizes that the problem isn't a Republican administration or a Democratic Congress. It's business as usual in Washington.
Ms. Palin's experience in reforming Alaskan government shows she's ready to lead on the national stage. She stood up to members of her own party who abused their power, risking her political career by protesting ethics violations. Ms. Palin went on to pass ethics reform. She has put the people's interests ahead of her own -- like Mr. McCain.

A McCain-Palin administration will not tolerate pork-barrel spending. In Washington, Mr. McCain spoke out against the "Bridge to Nowhere," a $400 million waste of the taxpayers' money that led to an island with a few dozen residents. In Juneau, Alaska, Ms. Palin made sure the bridge went nowhere, canceling the earmark. She wasn't afraid to use her veto pen, and Mr. McCain won't be either.

In a state where energy production is a top priority, Ms. Palin is an expert in the field. She has never shied away from challenging the influence of big oil companies, all the while fighting for the development of new energy resources. Ms. Palin worked with Democrats and Republicans to institute a rebate that used the state's vast oil revenues to help offset the high costs of fuel and heating in the state.

Ms. Palin has been a leader in the fight for American energy independence. Like Mr. McCain, she understands that we need an "all of the above" solution to secure our energy future. Her influence extended far beyond Alaska as she recently pushed through a gas pipeline project that will bring new supplies and lower prices to the lower 48 states.

Just last month, meanwhile, the Democrats running Congress went on vacation rather than vote to allow offshore drilling, which would reduce our dependence on foreign oil.

Beyond ethics and energy, Ms. Palin shares Mr. McCain's passion for conservation. Mr. McCain often speaks of his admiration for Theodore Roosevelt, a conservationist and sportsman who surely would have enjoyed Ms. Palin's company. She grew up hunting and fishing in Alaska, and she understands the importance of responsible stewardship of our environment.

All women should be proud of Mr. McCain's selection of Ms. Palin as his running mate, an historic moment that came the week of the 88th anniversary of women's earning the right to vote. Sarah Palin will break through the glass ceiling that, as she noted on her first day as the vice presidential nominee, has 18 million new cracks thanks to Hillary Clinton.

Another impressive woman. I had no idea of just how substantial a person until recently. She has a foundation, which she runs, which gives away millions of dollars to help others. She makes trips and does a ton of humanitarian work.

I love the story of the two little girls she brought home from one of her trips.

One thing I love about Republicans is that they act. They don't just talk. They don't whine to the government to do something. They figure it out and make it happen.

I know most have heard the stats about the comparison between those who consider themselves liberals or Democrats and those who consider themselves conservative or Republican? The right gives so much more than Dems. That's because we believe that we should do it ourselves, not look to the government to redistribute wealth.

I'm looking forward to hearing more about Cindy McCain tonight.

Here's another one for you... the Dems talk about equality and being color blind and gender blind and... and... and... But the Republicans are the ones who have more women and more minorities in positions of power. Take a look at the President's appointees and those he selects for positions of importance. Then think about who goes after these picks and trashes them. You'd think they'd be applauding Bush for picking Hispanics, women, blacks, etc. Or at least they'd try to keep up.

Why are people so enamored of the rhetoric when there are no facts and no substance to back it up?

Talk about someone with substance, I'm still smiling when I think about having Sarah Palin on the ticket. It's so clear today that the Dems are still in a dither about how to handle her!

What about this crap about Todd getting a ticket when he was, oh my god, 22. A baby. While he's drinking beer at the age when almost everyone in the world drinks beer or wine or more, Obama's out there snorting drugs --- he said so in his book. Now that's OK for a Presidential candidate to experiment with drugs, but not OK for a red-blooded American male to have a beer or two and get caught as a kid? Give me a break. I bet most of the people writing about it drink now. Geez.

The thing the media has done is raise awareness of Palin, shown their scared of Palin, and solidified a whole lot of people into supporters who were just wishy-washy before.

Ya know, I'd still be a lib if the party hadn't gotten so nasty. And I hadn't gone into business for myself. Tell you what, there is nothing that teaches you self-responsibility like running a business. You find out what it means to take care of yourself. When I worked for a large corporation, had healthcare, had vacation, had a steady paycheck it was easy to be cushioned and not think about things.

Sarah Palin is what most parents only dream their kids should be, could be. To handle five kids, a husband, a job, to kick butt in Alaska, be intelligent, happy, smart, beautiful.... I could was eloquent if I really worked at it . Go Sarah Palin. Go get 'em girl.

I have Google alerts set up with Sarah Palin's name. It gives me a daily summary of anytime Sarah Palin's name is in the new or in blogs. Now I have a ton of blogs and I have all kinds of alerts set up. I've tested these blogs umpteen times to see how fast my blogs are picked up. It is almost instantaneous.

Here's the weird thing, and I really hesitate to bring it up on here, but not once has this blog been picked up even though we're all talking about Sarah Palin blog after blog after blog.

Maybe it's because we're new.

Don't know.

The reason I hesitate to bring it up on here? It looks like blogs talking about Sarah Palin are being shut down. I tried to set up some other blogs and when I checked to see if they already existed there was a message saying they had been shut down and the names were no longer available. They weren't bad names, either. So, gonna go scouting to see if this is a conspiracy (wooo... wooo...). Could easily be that they were spam attacked or the names generate a lot of traffic that isn't positive or the people were trash talking on the blogs.

We're not going to do any of that on here.

Wasn't he superb? Just the right timing, inflections and most importantly, the right message! I heard him on Fox News this morning talking a little about the speech. He said they told him right before he went on to cut it a bit short so he and Lieberman could both be on during prime time, and then gave him two more paragraphs to try and squeeze in! He didn't even break a sweat.

I am so proud of everyone who is standing up and supporting both John McCain and Sarah Palin.

Did you see Levi today as the McCains and Palins got off the plane to go to the Convention? Little Bristol has a cutey! For that matter, so does Mama! They certainly have good taste in their men.

Back to real issues that matter, girl.

Can't wait to hear Rudi, Huckabee and SARAH speak tonight. The pressure must be something else on her as she prepare for what everyone keeps saying is the most important speech of her life. Did they say that when Joe Biden was getting ready to talk? Nah.

For that matter, has anyone trashed Joe Biden for choosing to be a politician when he was the single father of two children? It was tragic what happened to his young daughter and wife, and the boys. But rather than find a job that kept him at home or allowed him to be with his two young children he ran for office.

Now, if he had been a woman would that have been acceptable? Oh, wait, yes it would have been if we were talking a liberal instead of a conservative woman! Somehow, I think that if Palin had been in the same position as Biden, she probably would have stayed home with the kids. So, does that make Biden a schmuck 'cause he chose public office? Nope, although I probably wouldn't have done it.

On Tuesday night, the speakers at the GOP National Convention, namely former Sen. Fred Thompson and Democrat-turned-Independent Sen. Joe Lieberman, not only reminded America of the compelling story of Sen. John McCain, but also reminded America that Barack Obama is simply not ready to lead. Rick Santorum was talking to reporters, told them that in all his time in office (Senator, Pennsylvania) that no one had ever asked how he handled having eight (8) kids while in office.

Double standards of the Left are absolutely abhorrent.

For so-called liberals they sure aren't liberal when it comes to women are they?

All these feminists who yell and scream that women ought to be able to work and have a family just like a man sure have different standards when it's a Republican woman.

And plenty of excuses when they're called on their duplicity.

One good thing, it is nice to know that Republicans are held to higher standards than Democrats. That says a lot about Republican values and strength.

Anyone heard any outcry about Fowler's comments on God killing people cause He likes Dems better than Republicans??? I know that's not exactly what he said, but boil it down and that IS what he inferred.

If Republicans said half of what Democrats say we'd be front page news every day. Thank goodness most Republicans seem to have a sense of decency and don't have one set of rules for themselves and another for everyone else. Not saying all Republicans are perfect, man there are some winners on our side, too.

But there's a lot of stone throwing going on and there are some huge motes in some folks eyes.

Heard they're re-vetting Palin

Heard this morning that Joe Liberman was McCain's pick right up to the last minute. Also heard the FBI hadn't vetted Sarah Palin completely before he announced. I would be every little secret she ever had is already out there given she's been in the public eye for as long as she has.

Husband Todd got a ticket for DWI (or DUI depending on where you are in time ;-) twenty-two years ago. Bad boy ;-) Let's see, that would have made him somewhere in the neighborhood of twenty-two or 23? Another whoop-te-do.

17-year-old Bristol is getting married sometime soon to a 17 or so year old. I consider myself a social conservative in some areas, a moderate in others. I hold myself to a fairly strict line but I'm very tolerant of others and the choices they feel they need to make. Walk a mile in someone else's shoes and your feet don't fit in your own shoes anymore.

People make mistakes, they grow and learn hopefully. I've heard of couples who got married at 17 and lived to see their spouse die of old age, but it's rare. I give the young man kudos for being willing to step up to the plate. I'd bet the kids think they're in love. They don't understand what love is yet, maybe what they have will grow into love. It's going to be tougher on them because they have the eyes of the world watching.

Does Palin have to step down as Governor to run? We're only talking a few months off from work at this point so I can't imagine she's giving up being Governor.

What a feather in Alaska's cap if they are the home state of the first female Vice President, and possibly President if she runs after McCain's term ends.

We live in interesting times, but I would imagine every generation has said the same thing.

Hopefully there's not a time bomb ticking for Sarah. I can't imagine she would have considered taking the job if she had anything in her background. It looks like she disclosed everything and was pretty much up-front. She seems like a straight arrow, doubt she'd embarrass McCain.

Glad they're re-vetting her though, just to shut everyone up! Geez, give it up, get back to issues.

I can't believe some of the things "they" are saying about Sarah Palin. Can you imagine anyone, and I mean anyone, saying some of the stuff they're saying about Sarah Palin if she were SAM Palin?

What a double-standard the liberals have when it comes to women. If it's a Democratic woman, anything goes. If it's a Republican woman, there ain't no trash too dirty to throw.

Changing tracks here just a bit, what about the stuff with Don Fowler and Michael Moore? Do they really think God sends hurricanes to stall Republican conventions? How many people are out of their homes, how many are injured or have died? And they can joke about God going after Republicans? Nasty trash talking.

Back on track now. Sarah Palin is facing a tough situation with her daughter with grace. I'm sure there was a big family sit-down before they made the decision to move the family into the spotlight. That poor girl Bristol must be going through hell right now being hounded by the media hacks. Do ya think for one minute if this were Chelsie Clinton that the media would be doing the same thing? What do you want to bet that they'd have Hillary up on some pedestal as a saint for how she handled things? But a Republican??? No way. Trash talking.

Just read your post about Bristol. Some of these Dems are despicable. Did you hear what they've been spreading around on the blogs? They've been saying that cute little Trig is actually Bristol's child and that Sarah Palin faked her pregnancy to cover it up.

I simply can't imagine who some people make it through the day with all the crazy theories that eat holes in their brains.

Like a Governor could fake a pregnancy? What, they think she stuffed pillows under her dress and faked labor? Hid her daughter?

I agree with you, the Palin's are fantastic for standing by their daughter and welcoming this little one into the world. I'm so glad they didn't go the route so many kids do, deciding to kill the baby.

Bristol's Pregnancy

News is out that unwed daughter of Sarah and Todd Palin is pregnant. I'm sure the press is going to make a huge deal out of it.

The 17-year old is five months along and is planning to marry the father.

As the aunt of a niece who got preggers when she was 16, I can tell you it's a shocker, it's difficult and it is heart-breaking. These kids don't have a clue what they're getting into and it changes their entire life.

I know the family went through their own kind of hell when their jewel of a daughter told them she was going to have a baby.

I love it that the Palin's are standing behind their daughter and that the youngster has decided to keep her baby. So many would opt for an abortion and take the "easy" (in their mind at that time) way out.

We have a gorgeous little one-year old now who is delightful. Yes, grandma is more involved that she would have been had her daughter been older and stable. Yes, it has made life a lot more difficult for all involved. However, we stood behind her decision to have her daughter. She made a bad choice, a really bad choice, compounded by the fact that the father was not responsible (and boy are we glad he's out of the picture!).

I know Bristol's pregnancy will somewhat tarnish the image of Sarah Palin as VP in some people's minds. Hopefully the Left and Right will praise her for standing with her daughter.

John McCain knew about the pregnancy when he selected Sarah Palin. Kudos to him for still making the choice despite this personal issue the Palins are facing.
