Frustrating times... Exciting times...

I've been listening over these past few weeks to liberals, conservatives, independents, talk hosts, commentators, and seemingly everyone who can find an audience dissect the election. Everyone has their theory or locked-in-stone belief as to why Barack Obama won.

John McCain was too liberal. John McCain was too conservative.

The economy. The economy didn't matter, McCain would have lost anyway.

The media.

George Bush left a bad taste in everyone's mouth.

No way a Republican could have won, no matter who he was.

John McCain had a better chance than anyone.

If the Republicans had chosen a staunch conservative they might have won.

Sarah Palin was the kiss of death.

McCain wouldn't have gotten anywhere near as close as he did if it weren't for Sarah Palin.

I could go on and on.

God was behind Barack Obama.
God was fed up with us for not following him and he's punishing us with Barack Obama so we'll get back on the right path.

I understand the kids didn't come out in droves. I've read that moderates pulled for Obama rather than McCain. I've heard the Republicans didn't come out to vote.

Everyone has an opinion.

None of it really, really matters unless we're going to use the knowledge that we lost to build toward a better future.

I'm excited about all the things I see going on right now and frustrated by others.

The excitement comes from all the groups that are forming to work toward the better future I mentioned. People are tossing aside titles and finding common ground. We have Democrats who are disgusted with their party joining hands with Independents and Republicans. We have Republicans who've just claimed the name without any involvement getting involved. There is a burst of energy that I hope sustains us through a victory. There is an enthusiasm that I hope carries us through the next tough years we'll be enduring.

That's my frustration. I hear what Obama is promising and I am frustrated. Things that are looming include the Fairness Doctrine (shutting down free speech), the Freedom of Choice Act which will eliminate the choice of life for many, the court appointees that could drastically affect every decision of law for decades and so many other actions that tear away at the foundation of our country and the Constitution.

While we have so many who are organizing and banding together at this time, we're going to need those sleepy heads who've skated by, just living day-to-day, to wake up. We are going to need to find a way to educate people, to arm them with real knowledge. Yes, the Internet is on fire with a conservative fervor like I've never seen before. But if America is sitting in front of the boob-tube watching Ugly Betty and their favorite soap, all of our efforts on the Internet are not going to be quite enough.

We have to figure out a way to get on main stream media. We have to make inroads into the news media. How? One way is to raise our children to be reporters, to start newspapers, magazines, to be conservative actors and similar. The problem is trying to break into those liberal bastions! You almost have to be an undercover conservative until you reach a certain point. You have to live in the closet.

I don't know if that's a reasonable suggestion. Being the rich conservatives that we are (cough, cough), maybe we just need to raise the dough and buy up all the media outlets. Hmmm... maybe we need to start a fund to buy up newspapers and television stations! Ha. I think I've hit on something. Let's start a fund and get everyone contributing with the idea that we one by one buy up media outlets across the country.

Whatcha think? Worth a shot? I'm going to propose it to the Read My Lipstick Network and see if we can't collaborate with other groups to start that movement. Gee, keep typing long enough and maybe a worthwhile thought occurs. We'll see.

Troopergate? Give me a break gate....

Much ado about nothing. As far as I'm concerned if Sarah Palin erred it was in not going far enough. If my brother-in-law tasered my nephew he wouldn't be able to work. My sisters and I would have him in a circle of tasers and we'd show him what it's like. He'd still be running.

What kind of judgement does State Trooper Mike Wooten have? What kind of judgement does his boss, Commissioner of Public Safety Walter Monegan, have for not firing him or at least suspending him?

Yes, she should have fired the guy who wouldn't fire him. Bad judgement times ten on his part. Sarah would have been remiss if she had not wanted him to fire her ex-brother-in-law. Todd Palin wouldn't be a caring man if he hadn't tried to make it happen.

Sarah Palin's only problem is she's just not used to being sneaky and lying like those who are after her.

Trooper gate is clown gate. The Democrat hack clowns who are running this so-called investigation expect us to believe? to care? to swallow their gleeful openly stated partisan findings?

Sounds like a whole lot of jealousy of Todd Palin, Sarah Palin and those who stand up for what is right. These guys would fire their best friend if it would help their climb to power and they expect us to believe them when they point a finger at a Governor who clearly, even in their own write up, had the right to fire the guy (not the trooper) WITHOUT cause? Sounds like she had plenty of cause to me and it has nothing to do with what the idiot trooper did to his own son, or the threats he made to his in-laws life.

It's not going to stick to Sarah guys. Some October surprise.

The surprise is on you. The only people who are going to give this any credibility are the extreme left who love finding fault with good people because it makes them feel more virtuous. Emphasis on "feel".

Wow, this is turning out to be a nasty situation in Ohio. Now I'm hearing that the state isn't going to allow independent observers at the polls or something to that affect (effect? always get mixed up on those two ;-).

I'm going to assume you've all heard about the controversy with the absentee ballots, how they're allowing people to register and vote at the same time. Talk about an opportunity for cheating! There should be a waiting period so they can check out the identification and validity of residency and other issues.

I have a feeling Ohio is going to be Florida revisited.

I've heard they're taking the homeless and dragging them down to register and vote.

I'm going to take a look to see what's going on with the state excluding poll watchers. I don't even think they can legally do that.

Sarah Palin, Joe Biden, Hate and the Media

Joe Biden has been on the Washington political scene for what, 35 years or so? Sarah Palin has been on the Washington political scene for a bit over a month?

Joe Biden makes a gaff and it's cute, funny, and, you know, "just Joe".

Sarah Palin makes a gaff and she's not ready for prime time.

Joe Biden has an interview with Katie Couric and she's touching his knee, cutting up with him, obviously comfortable with him (and he still makes a gaffe ;-)

Sarah Palin has an interview with Katie Couric and the setting is stilted, Katie manages to control her facial expressions but not the gotcha mentality and she gets her moment.

I was listening to Fox & Friends for a minute or two this morning and they were talking about the women who absolutely hate Sarah Palin. One of them commented that it seemed to be big city not mid-America who had a problem with her.

I've heard that before and have kind of picked up on it myself.

Here's my theory on that one:

Sarah Palin is fulfilled and happy. She has a career and is accomplishing something meaningful with her life. She has five beautiful children and a real-dude husband who's cute and supportive (which is like extra icing on the side, eat it with a spoon!).

These New York types and Hollywood-the-world-revolves-around-me types see how shallow their lives really are. She shows how meaningless much of what they do actually is, how little they bring to the table. She makes them feel inadequate.

For the rest of us, those who don't have the need for public adoration and don't need to have our egos propped up by others, Sarah is a true, true breath of fresh air, someone we can admire. We're pleased she has accomplished all she has and don't feel the need to tear her down to make ourselves feel better about who we are.

We can have our inadequacies but we're able to accept ourselves and we're strong in ways that the women who have to tear others down to feel good will never be.

Strong women, truly strong women, love Sarah Palin. Those who need outside props to fill their inner space can't handle anyone of competence.

Think about it! Just by being who she is Sarah Palin makes them feel small. The cling to their groups (not their guns and religion ;-) to give themselves an identity.

I can understand not liking some of the things Sarah Palin believes in and not wanting to vote for her. But hate? But this obsession some have with her? I heard Tina Fey talking the other night about playing Sarah Palin on Saturday Night Live. She was having real problems with it, said she hoped she never had to play her again after November 4th. It wasn't so much what she said as how she said it that showed her absolute need to be accepted by her peers.

Ah well, I could go on in this vein until long after all the cows in the world were home in their barns and still not touch on all the underlying personal instability that makes a person have to hate someone they don't know. Irritation that the Party they hate and vilify might be the first to accomplish what should be there's by right (first woman President) plays into things for some. The Democrats blew it when they didn't choose Hillary Clinton and they can't stand it that the Republicans might beat them to yet another first. They are fanning the winds of resentment and hate just as much as they can.

It's up to us to fight the good and decent fight for Sarah Palin, John McCain and true Republican values (not the ones some of our so-called leaders have ignored for these past years).

Don't let the media get you down and don't make the mistake of letting your moods swing with the various leanings of the media or the polls. Stay strong, keep your spirits up no matter what the media tries to cram down your throat and let's win in November!!!

He didn't use John McCain's name, but he said that things were proceeding along swimmingly, essentially. And they were, you know, getting close. And then he said a certain person came to Washington and the wheels fell off. Is that an accurate description of what happened?"

Fox News' Carl Cameron: "No. There wasn't a deal. You have to first accept a predicate that there was an arrangement agreed to by all the necessary lawmakers and authorities -- that was essentially a piece of paper and a proposal that had been discussed and agreed to by one senate committee -- that's not the same as a deal. A deal in budget parlance and bailout parlance requires the White House, the regulators, the House and Senate Republicans and Democrats.

And because House Republicans were not given an adequate seat at the table, Republicans had great misgivings about this -- the American people have great misgivings about this -- I mean 60% and more in many polls say that the public just doesn't like this. They think its way to big a bailout with not enough insurance that the Devil is not in those details. So McCain's role in this was to bring about progress for a deal, which as of this hour has not yet existed. They are getting clo ser, they say, but yesterday because there was a commerce committee deal does not constitute finality, that was McCain's point and he has been making it since Monday. And Harry Reid saying that we shouldn't inject Presidential politics into this and then immediately turn to John McCain raises some questions. Everybody is playing politics, with less than 40 days before the election, of course this was going to be looked at through partisan prisms, but how about looking at it through taxpayer prisms, taxpayer glasses. All of this discussion about we're worried about Wall Street, but more about main street -- taxpayers are included in both of those places, and Republicans in the House say they were not brought to the table adequately, and these aren't John McCain's idea's per se, he just brought all the people together so that these ideas could be articulated and if Democrats buy into them, that will be part of the deal as yet uncut." ...

Priceless! Obama Praises John McCain's Record Of Reform

The McCain-Palin team needs to make this a commercial!!!

At today's speech in Green Bay, WI, Barack Obama spent much of his time attacking John McCain's reform credentials. Yet, two years ago before he was running for president, Barack Obama was saying something quite different when he praised John McCain's reform record:

Barack Obama: "There Is One Person Who's Been Consistent On Reform Issues, And That's Been John McCain." "I have asked them to prepare a list of additional proposals, additional reforms that they think will strengthen what we already have. And I will make a presentation to Democratic leadership and the caucus about some of those proposals, because I want -- and I know Joe Lieberman wants -- the strongest possible bill. And so they're in the process of doing that now. The second thing I want to mention is, you know, I know that, as I've said before, the Republicans seem to have found religion on this thing. Still laughing at comment

A brilliant mind (drip sarcasm) left a comment on one of my previous blogs (which I didn't post) saying Thank God Sarah Palin was there to save the banks, referred to her degree and the fact that she could see Russia from her "year". Yeah, they wrote from her year, whatever that means . Whacky weed, alchihole or public education, take your pick.

I'll take Sarah Palin's experience over Barack Obama's any day. Geez, talk about a light-weight when compared to Sarah!

Sarah is going to be VICE President and we have a sharp, experienced, intelligent, no-nonsense guy at the top of the ticket.

I love it that everyone on the Left is still comparing Barack Obama to Sarah Palin and getting all uptight about the support she's receiving.

I'd put a mother of five up against Ahmadinejad anytime!

I have to go to work, can't go into depth here, just wanted to respond since it was such a silly comment.

Also wanted to suggest that everyone on the Read My Lipstick Network list with a Blogger blog to go to "Settings", click the "Comment" tab and set your choices to "ALWAYS" on the comment moderation choice --- you put your email account in and it sends you an email for prior approval for comments. It will allow you to keep the trash talk out! I have my choice set to allow anonymous comments rather than just blogger members or other since I have comment moderation on. Governor Palin, the Republican nominee for vice president, was scheduled to speak today at a rally in Dag Hammarskjold Plaza to protest the appearance here of President Ahmadinejad of Iran. Her appearance was canceled by rally organizers who sought a nonpolitical event. Following are the remarks Mrs. Palin would have given:

I am honored to be with you and with leaders from across this great country -- leaders from different faiths and political parties united in a single voice of outrage.
Tomorrow, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad will come to New York -- to the heart of what he calls the Great Satan -- and speak freely in this, a country whose demise he has called for.

Ahmadinejad may choose his words carefully, but underneath all of the rhetoric is an agenda that threatens all who seek a safer and freer world. We gather here today to highlight the Iranian dictator's intentions and to call for action to thwart him.

He must be stopped.

The world must awake to the threat this man poses to all of us. Ahmadinejad denies that the Holocaust ever took place. He dreams of being an agent in a "Final Solution" -- the elimination of the Jewish people. He has called Israel a "stinking corpse" that is "on its way to annihilation." Such talk cannot be dismissed as the ravings of a madman -- not when Iran just this summer tested long-range Shahab-3 missiles capable of striking Tel Aviv, not when the Iranian nuclear program is nearing completion, and not when Iran sponsors terrorists that threaten and kill innocent people around the world.

The Iranian government wants nuclear weapons. The International Atomic Energy Agency reports that Iran is running at least 3,800 centrifuges and that its uranium enrichment capacity is rapidly improving. According to news reports, U.S. intelligence agencies believe the Iranians may have enough nuclear material to produce a bomb within a year.

The world has condemned these activities. The United Nations Security Council has demanded that Iran suspend its illegal nuclear enrichment activities. It has levied three rounds of sanctions. How has Ahmadinejad responded? With the declaration that the "Iranian nation would not retreat one iota" from its nuclear program.

So, what should we do about this growing threat? First, we must succeed in Iraq. If we fail there, it will jeopardize the democracy the Iraqis have worked so hard to build, and empower the extremists in neighboring Iran. Iran has armed and trained terrorists who have killed our soldiers in Iraq, and it is Iran that would benefit from an American defeat in Iraq.

If we retreat without leaving a stable Iraq, Iran's nuclear ambitions will be bolstered. If Iran acquires nuclear weapons -- they could share them tomorrow with the terrorists they finance, arm, and train today. Iranian nuclear weapons would set off a dangerous regional nuclear arms race that would make all of us less safe.

But Iran is not only a regional threat; it threatens the entire world. It is the no. 1 state sponsor of terrorism. It sponsors the world's most vicious terrorist groups, Hamas and Hezbollah. Together, Iran and its terrorists are responsible for the deaths of Americans in Lebanon in the 1980s, in Saudi Arabia in the 1990s, and in Iraq today. They have murdered Iraqis, Lebanese, Palestinians, and other Muslims who have resisted Iran's desire to dominate the region. They have persecuted countless people simply because they are Jewish.

Iran is responsible for attacks not only on Israelis, but on Jews living as far away as Argentina. Anti-Semitism and Holocaust denial are part of Iran's official ideology and murder is part of its official policy. Not even Iranian citizens are safe from their government's threat to those who want to live, work, and worship in peace. Politically-motivated abductions, torture, death by stoning, flogging, and amputations are just some of its state-sanctioned punishments.

It is said that the measure of a country is the treatment of its most vulnerable citizens. By that standard, the Iranian government is both oppressive and barbaric. Under Ahmadinejad's rule, Iranian women are some of the most vulnerable citizens.

If an Iranian woman shows too much hair in public, she risks being beaten or killed.

If she walks down a public street in clothing that violates the state dress code, she could be arrested.

But in the face of this harsh regime, the Iranian women have shown courage. Despite threats to their lives and their families, Iranian women have sought better treatment through the "One Million Signatures Campaign Demanding Changes to Discriminatory Laws." The authorities have reacted with predictable barbarism. Last year, women's rights activist Delaram Ali was sentenced to 20 lashes and 10 months in prison for committing the crime of "propaganda against the system." After international protests, the judiciary reduced her sentence to "only" 10 lashes and 36 months in prison and then temporarily suspended her sentence. She still faces the threat of imprisonment.

Earlier this year, Senator Clinton said that "Iran is seeking nuclear weapons, and the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps is in the forefront of that" effort. Senator Clinton argued that part of our response must include stronger sanctions, including the designation of the IRGC as a terrorist organization. John McCain and I could not agree more.

Senator Clinton understands the nature of this threat and what we must do to confront it. This is an issue that should unite all Americans. Iran should not be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons. Period. And in a single voice, we must be loud enough for the whole world to hear: Stop Iran!
Only by working together, across national, religious, and political differences, can we alter this regime's dangerous behavior. Iran has many vulnerabilities, including a regime weakened by sanctions and a population eager to embrace opportunities with the West. We must increase economic pressure to change Iran's behavior.

Tomorrow, Ahmadinejad will come to New York. On our soil, he will exercise the right of freedom of speech -- a right he denies his own people. He will share his hateful agenda with the world. Our task is to focus the world on what can be done to stop him.

We must rally the world to press for truly tough sanctions at the U.N. or with our allies if Iran's allies continue to block action in the U.N. We must start with restrictions on Iran's refined petroleum imports.

We must reduce our dependency on foreign oil to weaken Iran's economic influence.
We must target the regime's assets abroad; bank accounts, investments, and trading partners.
President Ahmadinejad should be held accountable for inciting genocide, a crime under international law.

We must sanction Iran's Central Bank and the Revolutionary Guard Corps -- which no one should doubt is a terrorist organization.

Together, we can stop Iran's nuclear program.

Senator McCain has made a solemn commitment that I strongly endorse: Never again will we risk another Holocaust. And this is not a wish, a request, or a plea to Israel's enemies. This is a promise that the United States and Israel will honor, against any enemy who cares to test us. It is John McCain's promise and it is my promise.

We're in a pickle.

No doubt about it, the United States finance system is the pits at the moment. I don't see anything positive about where we are and I don't see us digging our way out for years to come.

I listened to Secretary Henry Paulson on three programs this morning (yes, I skipped church, bad girl that I am today). I heard him speak on Fox News, Meet the Press and ABC. Three different questioners but he was consistent in his answers.

One moment I'd feel better when I heard his comments, then I'd hear the next and feel like we were flying by the seat of our pants. We are in a pickle and it seems based on all the various conversations this morning that no one has a good grasp of the best thing to do. They are hoping and making best guess choices. Scary.

I listened to Christopher Dodd (how can anyone give him ANY credibility given the amounts he's taken from Fannie May while supposedly regulating the failed agency???) and heard politics as usual. The Democrats are going to try and hold our future as hostage so they can get some pet projects through. Half the country is going to rally to their cause and enough Republicans will cave to give them what they want.

I hope I'm wrong. I hope it's the Republicans who hold strong and just get this thing through without any extra garbage attached. Work on the rest of it afterwards when we have cooler minds and can really look at what we're doing!

We are heading toward Socialism sure as I'm breathing if the Democrats take over in January. It's enough that they have the power at the moment but can you imagine what will happen if we have a Democratic Senate and White House?

With politic and partisanship being what it is at the moment I'm not sure they're going to be able to come up with a plan that won't have us in a bigger mess in the future.

Does anyone think that Welfare was the right thing to give to politicians to handle many years back? Think about every program that started with good intentions. Once big government got hold of it they twisted it into something else to give themselves more power.

We need John McCain and Sarah Palin more than ever now. Whoever takes the helm over the next few years is going to struggle with huge problems and will be lambasted in the press no matter which way they go, but we need people who will not take us further down the road to socialism.

I hope people will put aside partisanship and their simplistic view of the Presidency and look at the long-term and the repercussions from their choice on November 4th (or tomorrow since in many states [all of them???] early voting starts September 22nd).

Nationalization of the United States, Barack Obama and Fidel Castro

It seems to me that people should be more scared of Obama than ever given all that is going on with our financial institutions, Wall Street, the housing industry and the overall economy.

We know Barack Obama's ultimate goal seems to be to turn the United States into a socialist country.

The current moves by our government will make it that much easier for Obama to reach his goals if he wins in November.

Once in office he'll decry the huge debt he has inherited and our taxes will go up to pay the government's bills. The result will be more businesses bankruptcies and fewer jobs. To help all those who are out of work or struggling, he'll nationalize health care to ensure we all have access. When talk radio and newspapers start yelling he'll shut them down for the public good. After all, times will be difficult enough and he'll say we don't need those right-wing "traitors" stirring up trouble.

He'll blame it all on George W. Bush and the Republicans.

I'm beginning to wonder on some level if this isn't a long-term plan. When I hear that moves that would have or could have stopped the current crisis were voted against by Barack Obama and other Democrats, when I hear some of the background behind the current crisis, I wonder if a more devious mind than mine could have engineered things to this point.

Will we someday look back at this year as a pivotal point in the loss of our freedoms and the country we love so much?

Each year I get to celebrate Independence Day twice. On June 30 I celebrate
my independence day, and on July 4 I celebrate America's. This year is special, because it marks the 40th anniversary of my independence.

On June 30, 1968, I escaped Communist Cuba, and a few months later, I was in the United States to stay. That I happened to arrive in Richmond on Thanksgiving Day is just part of the story, but I digress.

I've thought a lot about the anniversary this year. The election-year rhetoric has made me think a lot about Cuba and what transpired there.

In the late 1950s, most Cubans thought Cuba needed a change, and they were right. So when a young leader came along, every Cuban was at least receptive.

When the young leader spoke eloquently and passionately and denounced the old system, the press fell in love with him. They never questioned who his friends were or what he really believed in.

When he said he would help the farmers and the poor and bring free medical care and education to all, everyone followed. When he said he would bring justice and equality to all, everyone said, 'Praise the Lord.'

And when the young leader said, 'I will be for change and I'll bring you change,' everyone yelled, 'Viva Fidel!'

But nobody asked about the change, so by the time the executioner's guns went silent, the people's guns had been taken away.
By the time everyone was equal, they were equally poor, hungry, and
oppressed.
By the time everyone received their free education, it was worth nothing.
By the time the press noticed, it was too late, because they were now working for him.
By the time the change was finally implemented, Cuba had been knocked down a couple of notches to Third-World status.

By the time the change was over, more than a million people had taken to boats, rafts, and inner tubes. You can call those who made it ashore anywhere else in the world the most fortunate Cubans.

And now I'm back to the beginning of my story.

Luckily, we would never fall in America for a young leader who promised change without asking, what change? How will you carry it out? What will it cost America?

Today the McCain-Palin campaign announced the endorsement of Lynn Forester de Rothschild, a prominent Hillary Clinton supporter and member of the Democratic National Committee's Platform Committee.

"In an election as important at this, we must choose the candidate who has a proven record of bipartisanship and reforming government, and that's John McCain," Rothschild said. "We can't afford a president who lacks experience and judgment and has never crossed party lines to work for meaningful reform. Amid tough economic times and foreign policy concerns, we need someone who is ready to lead. Although I am a Democrat, I recognize that it's more important to put country ahead of party and that's why I support John McCain."

Rothschild, an attorney and businesswoman, supported Sen. Clinton during the Democratic primaries. She will campaign for Sen. McCain through Election Day.

As they recall the failure of immigration reform in Congress, Democrats want to come off as the good guys.

This means burying the fact that their patrons in organized labor instructed them to kill any compromise that included guest workers -- a concept AFL-CIO President John Sweeney termed "a bad idea (that) harms all workers."

And it means trying to refute a new Spanish-language television ad from the McCain-Palin campaign that blames Barack Obama and other Senate Democrats for undermining immigration reform in 2007 with procedural delays and "poison pill" amendments intended to make the legislation unpalatable to Republicans.

Translated, the ad says: "Obama and his congressional allies say they are on the side of immigrants. But are they? The press reports that their efforts were 'poison pills' that made immigration reform fail. The result: No guest worker program. No path to citizenship. No secure borders. No reform. Is that being on our side? Obama and his congressional allies: Ready to block immigration reform, but not ready to lead."

That is exactly what happened. It was smart but cynical politics. Led by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Democrats were able to please the unions and deny a Republican president a huge legislative victory, all the while making it look as if the opposing party was to blame for the debacle.

Luckily, some members of the media kept their eye on the ball and put the blame where it belonged: on Reid and the Democrats. The Washington Post's David Broder, in a column published in June 2007, blasted Reid for going "out of his way to rewrite (the immigration bill) to meet the demands of organized labor."

Now, in response to the McCain-Palin ad, Democrats are practicing revisionist history. Sen. Robert Menendez of New Jersey said in a statement released by the Obama campaign: "To say that Barack Obama and Senate Democrats blocked the bill that Republicans filibustered is hypocritical and not true. John McCain has lost his credibility when it comes to the immigration issue. . . . (He) cannot attack Democrats on immigration in Spanish while pandering to the extreme right Tancredo wing of the Republican Party in English."

I understand that Menendez is trying to earn Obama's good graces after being a vocal supporter of Hillary Clinton in the primaries. But did he really compare McCain to Tom Tancredo, the nativist congressman who also sought the GOP nomination in this year's primaries?

Senator, I know Tom Tancredo. I've written about Tom Tancredo. And John McCain is no Tom Tancredo. One of the few things that these men share is a strong dislike for one another. In one debate, McCain described Tancredo's explanation of what makes someone an American as "beyond my realm of thinking."

Others on the left are also lending a hand to Democratic efforts at damage control. They include groups dedicated to the admirable goal of achieving comprehensive immigration reform. What is not so admirable is the way that these groups have turned on McCain, whom not long ago they praised for fighting the good fight on the immigration issue. Now they claim that McCain has flip-flopped.

Baloney. They're the ones who flip-flopped, and for no grander reason than because we're in an election year.

"We are stunned," declared Frank Sharry, executive director of America's Voice, a Washington-based liberal-leaning organization in a statement.

"A Spanish-language ad approved by Sen. John McCain accuses Sen. Obama and the Democrats of derailing immigration reform? He knows better. The whole political world knows better. Comprehensive immigration reform was blocked not by Democrats but by Republicans. . . . Immigrants and Latinos are intelligent. They know the difference between fact and fiction."

I always appreciate it when non-Latinos are patronizing and tell me what I should or shouldn't know. I know this much: Some folks inside the Beltway are so eager to put a Democrat in the White House that they're putting party before truth.

They include Latino groups such as the National Council of La Raza and the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund who, as Sharry said, should know better.

During a conference call this week with reporters, NCLR Vice President Cecilia Munoz also criticized the ad and called immigration an issue that "tends to determine who the good guys are and the bad guys are for Latinos."

That implies that these advocacy groups can tell the difference. That's the point. Blinded by partisanship, they haven't a clue.
